Qwiberg $170k?!? From Swedish 2nd Divison? He’s USL caliber. What on earth were we doing?

No complaints about Yuell but how did he get to $196k so fast as a drafted rookie?

He is on a GA contract I believe. They pay his salary...same with Tarbell....

Magnus's transfer fee was reported / estimated to be around $1.4 mil, so he does not come cheap regardless, and that may put him in DP range. Similar to MPG, who wasn't a DP by virtue of salary but by virtue of transfer fee.

    He's on the injury report.
He was working out on an exercise bike at the Quake facility before the Minnesota United game.

Here’s what I don’t get. By what measurable metric is Qwiberg better than Kip Colvey?

    Salary: no

    67,500 to 170k

    Size: no

    International slot: no

    Age: no, Qwiberg is older

Experience traveling long distance to play games? No

Just a really dumb move to replace Colvey with a more expensive, lesser version of the same position

    MLS starts this year?

    No. (Colvey - 3, Qwiberg - 1)

Someone needs to draw this chart versus the rate of inflation in the SF Bay Area from 2007 to 2018. I'll bet the Quakes are below local inflation rates (primarily real estate / rent prices), food, childcare, etc

Kip only started for Colorado because of injury. He is no longer starting.

I don't even think he made the 11 in their game last weekend against NYRB.

Yep, I'm aware. But at least he is being used as depth whereas here last year here he was essentially mothballed. And injury or not, it's not like we have solved the starting left back position here and there is no occasion to give Qwiberg more minutes.

And that reminds me of another one:

Versatility? No, not even close. Colvey can play as a winger or fullback, is comfortable on either side, and is equally adept at crossing with either foot. Jesse says that Qwiberg is really only a winger and not a fullback. And he only plays on the left as far as I know.

If the international slot is worth about $70k in TAM (isn’t that what the Quakes paid to add Vako last year in a trade?), then Qwiberg is costing SJ around 240k in salary value. That’s 4 times what Colvey is making. For a guy that is less valuable? In a position that the coach doesn’t even play?

I just watched a bit of the Reno versus Sacramento US open cup game and noticed that none of our youth players who I think are on loan to Reno are in their 18.

    Is this normal?

The same thing happen to me last year when they played in the Open Cup. The prevailing theory was that those players were withheld so they would not become cup-tied to Reno. We may want to play them as Earthquakes in the future.

On the Quakes subreddit someone noticed that Magnus is no longer listed as a DP on the Quakes site.

Magnus was a DP because of the cost of his transfer fee. MLS could have changed the rules on that, or there could have been some cheap way for us to buy him down? I don't know, just guessing here. But if the transfer fee doesn't count, then he's not a DP.

    GO Quakes!!

He's good. Lima-seque in a lot of ways - quick, stout build, scrappy defender, and good hard shot from distance.

A lot of times the good players are right under our noses. We don't necessarily need to mine Scandinavian 2nd division clubs.

We need a backup for Lima's position if Paul Marie can't do it. Partida showed enough during the Open Cup game that it makes sense to have him "on loan" to develop with the first team at practice in case Lima gets temporarily injured.

Not really, in which case he'd fit right in with our left back corps. :)
