Group A 2 July 2017 Georgia - Portugal (18:00 PT) 5 July 2017 Czech Republic - Portugal (18:00 PT) 8 July 2017 Portugal - Sweden (18:00 PT) Group B Germany Bulgaria Netherlands England
Georgia - Portugal (17:00 PT) Today * above post is in CET. (I think so check at 17:00 which would make all the games at 17:00 provided they are correct above).
Dumb to not call up Vinagre at leftback, and Joao Felix/Moretto Cassama. Still, you need to remember a lot of these players are still 17/18 which makes a big difference in youth soccer playing against players 1/2 years older...thats an extra year of maturity and development. Hopefullly they were just holding back and took it for granted vs Georgia.
Group A Game 1 Georgia 0 Portugal 1 (Rui Pedro 66') The quality of the video is not great but better than nothing. Georgia were the better team but had trouble in the final third. Portugal struggled and only a rather soft foul on Rui Pedro half way through the second half gave Portugal a excellent chance via a penalty. Rui Pedro got up and put right in the corner, great composure. Another host beaten by Portugal and 3 opening points. Gedson Fernandes got sent off for two yellows with about 20 minutes left. http://www.uefa.com/under19/season=...772/match=2022673/postmatch/report/index.html
Group A Georgia 0 Portugal 1 Czech Republic 2 Sweden 1 Group B Bulgaria 0 England 2 Germany 1 Netherlands 4
Portugal beat the Czechs 2-1 in what seems to have been a fairly even match. All three goals were clinical finishes from crosses with Rui Pedro scoring the winner for the second consecutive match, this time on a nifty header back across goal (a nice surprise after watching the senior team waste wide open headers all Confederations Cup long). The Czechs scored an equalizer in the 90th directly from a free kick near midfield, but it was disallowed, though I'm still not sure why. I think they took it before the ref had given them the go-ahead. It would've been a gut-punch of an equalizer, but Portugal lucked out. Still not a good look for Diogo Costa in goal though. Georgia beat Sweden 2-1, so Portugal's through to the semis. The final match against Sweden will only determine Portugal's placement, if that.
what happened there at the end? The ref called a goal then took it back for nothing? The ref totally screwed the Czechs there to help us? I am not a fan, I'm looking for clarification on that last play.
Apparently that was an indirect free kick, and since it touched none of the players before hitting the goal, it couldn't count.
The reasons the commentators mentioned was the above one and/or that he had not blown the whistle i.e. Czech Republic took the free kick too early. Either way it saved Diogo Costa some tears after the blushes.
