And El Confidencial is a Spanish newspaper (tabloid?), of course they'd want to show as much bad news about their Iberian rivals as possible, whether the story is true or not
Mourinho is going mental, criticizing the preparation for games and why Portugal is holding training sessions who hundreds of spectators.
gotta say, I've always been disappointed w/ the absolute lack of give-a-shittedness expressed by Mourinho as to how he could contribute to his home country's national team in even the slightest manner. With most coaches you can tell that the national program tugs at their heart a bit. I just don't see that w/ The Special One.
don't think so..when queiroz got fired mourinho wanted to be caretaker for 2 matches when it looked like we couldn't get a coach in time, and he has repeatedly expressed how he wants to accomplish some special things with Portugal before he retires.
Mourinho has always expressed an interest in being the manager, but he doesn't want to coach Portugal until he's finished at the club level; he has said as much. Also, he was about to serve as interim manager for two Euro 2012 qualifying matches after Carlos Queiroz was fired but Real Madrid wouldn't allow it. If anything, his frustration with the national team shows he does care deeply about how Portugal performs. And I agree with him about the public training crap.
Portugal coach Paulo Bento speaking before tomorrow's game against Ghana: "I shouldn't have to ask to see professionalism or character tomorrow; it's something required of each player. Tomorrow has always been about what we have to do. We have to win. Ghana has progressed technically and is a physically strong side. They also want to win." http://www.record.xl.pt/Futebol/Internacional/mundial2014/portugal/interior.aspx?content_id=891210
Reading some of these posts in this thread are hilariously satisfying. Thanks to all our Portuguese friends for the info on the players a lot of us hadn't seen play.
I think a very underrated player is Diogo Fonseca. He is an Azorean player who played on the U19 Portuguese National Team, played Primera Division and currently playing Segunda Division. His characteristics are unique, but brings value to a team looking to score goals.
