By the way, I would rep your initial post about a thousand times if I could. I hope others do.

Thanks. I don’t see how or why Austin is such an attractive move. I know you can no longer go by USL attendance history but it doesn’t seem to me that the city or their fans (if there are many) really care about soccer. Recalling when the mayor of San Antonio rejected even the thought of getting a team, I doubt Austin’s city government wants to fork over money to build the stadium free of charge for Precourt.

Just trying to think of what would happen if Juventus moved to Palermo, Bayern moved to Dresden or Manchester United goes to Brighton. There should be protests going on from every team within the league to prevent this move from happening!

So what exactly is the latest news on this Crew to Austin move? I haven't read much about it. This all reminds me of when the Quakes were about to move as everything was kept silent.

That's cool--but I'm still never going to an FCC game if the Crew move (or any other MLS game).

What’s going on about the move? Is there any news?

    It's over.

Austin wanted $30M+ in infrastructure from PSV while PSV wanted the city to pay for everything AND give them the land for a $1 per year lease. In addition, PSV wants the City to pay for all traffic control outside the stadium as well as all maintenance costs on the property but outside the stadium.

In exchange, PSV will pay no property tax but will allow the city to use the facility once or twice a year rent free (PSV gets all revenue generated from those events).

In a few days Austin will tell PSV to pound sand and he will sell to local groups in Columbus.

@stanger I love and respect you and I appreciate your optimism, but just stop acting like you know the outcome and it's done and done. It's still 50/50 and no one knows where this will end up yet.

Here's the biggest problem with spouting this to others. If you tell them its over they will stop fighting. Stop telling people we don't need to keep fighting!!!!

Optimism is my best trait! You trying to take that away from me!

I get it. I'll temper my unbridled optimism, but the point does stand, I see no way the team moves. When you look at all the factors in play, including Epstein using his Austin connections to begin to thwart AP, there can really be no other outcome.

Do you really think Austin will let someone with no local connections to force a quick decision on gifting millions in land, infrastructure and other costs? Now look at the reputation AP has and tell me how probable all those things are.

My optimism isn't based in fantasy.

I am not telling you not to be optimistic. I am not telling you to change your beliefs. I also agree that we are in a fairly good position right now, but political winds change quickly, so I remain pessimistically optimistic.

Please consider the effect of telling the less informed that "it's over", "we've won", "you can stand down and go home". It's simply not true. This is NOT over, tell everyone you know!

50/50? Someone sounds like he added something a bit extra to his morning coffee (assuming you drink coffee?).

I do, and no I've been on the 50/50 train since the first legal responses to the lawsuit were submitted (and analyzed by people who can read that shit). Also, you know I'm a classic fence sitter. I like to play both sides.

It's not close to over. I'm optimistic that we'll eventually keep the team with local ownership but there are a lot more cards to be played before we get to that point.

Put down your text books and philosophical journals and your ps4 controller and read a damned Jack Reacher novel already.

    It's 50/50, it's always been 50/50, it either happens or it doesn't

I don’t know the situation in Columbus but I think it’s right for fans to talk and counter this move every chance they get. Quakes fans and soccer Silicon Valley’s efforts paid off in the long run as I think many of their voices were heard in getting Garber to grant a new expansion team in 2008 but who knows if we could have blocked the move to Houston had more people spoken up?

That was 2005 and it was a different time but I for one think you guys should protest this as much as possible! You all should organize protests about the move and take the crusade to the streets and/or even city hall if necessary. Why not and who would stop you from doing it?
