I have tickets and after tonight's travesty of refereeing have decided to stay at home and watch us get screwed over drinking better and cheaper beer.
I'm going. We're still better than last year. We are good at possession, good on defense, but still are last year's team in the final third. No way we get past the first round of playoffs, if we get in. We have so many chances we don't put away that we rely on questionable ref calls to define our performance. Basically the same group, are doing better this year because they have better direction, but they are still not "upper bracket" MLS players (except Wondo and Espi), so teams figured us out and we can barely keep up the press for 70 min. Fierro still needs an off-season under his belt, that start was a waste. Lima at that position and Marie or Lopez at left back would have been a better choice. Vega's now doing the Tarbell, whacking it up the field too much. Teams have figured us out and our edge is gone. My trip to Portland should be interesting. I hope I don't see anything that should end up on national news...
Looks like it's time to have an honest discussion about Emerald City Supporters. . . . ECS bullying After my last three stories on the unfolding drama, many current and former members have reached out to complain about ECS political activism. Because of the alleged threats of retaliation, and they’re online bullying of anyone who disagrees with their politics, I’ve agreed not to use fan names, but have verified their membership in the group. “ECS goes after anyone who disagrees with them like a pack of starving wolverines,” one fan told the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. The fan was an ECS member until recently. . . . . . . A front office representative responded, saying “we want Sounders matches to be safe and accessible to everyone regardless of their background, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, profession, socio-economic status … you name it. Our goal is to protect these values at all cost.” But is that what the team is doing? Notably missing from that exhaustive list is political ideology, a protected class under Seattle law. A flag attached to a movement that calls all conservatives Nazis and all cops “pigs” shouldn’t be waved at a match if the Sounders want their events to be seen as inclusive or tolerant . . . I have a bit of history in this area. I moved here from Idaho - where I spent six years, and before that Wisconsin. All my life, I had been a fan of the Packers, Cardinals (baseball), and the Blackhawks. However, I've been here for over 30 years, and all of those teams have gone by the wayside (save the Packers). It is possible to shift allegiances without being a terrible person (although I'm not saying I'm not a terrible person - someone else would have to judge that).
Why should Quakes fans care about anything related to MLS these days? I don’t care about wrestling or Shakespeare-in-the-Park or other scripted stuff. And why should I care if anyone else is interested in what interests me?
We'll get slagged, and the refs will help, whether they need to or not. Maybe someone in our FO had the temerrity to complain about lousey calls against us, and this is punishement for us being an uppity team? Go Quakes!! We're f@#$@#$ed!! - Mark
Even the SJMN is out to get us... From today's paper: "The Quakes play at fourthplace Seattle on Sunday and then end the regular season at home on Oct. 6 against Portland. "
