Do you know if the youth/academy teams ever play any colleges in scrimmages or friendlies? I remember back in the day our under 19 and also the JC’s would play games against the local schools in the springtime. Just curious to see how they would matchup.
Not sure if they will play against college teams. I think it’s more likely they will play one of the preseason USL teams or maybe the U-19s will scrimmage the first team. There has been an explosion of different levels of pro soccer teams. The days when you needed to play against a college team to get the best competition is probably over.
Ya I can understand that but I’m assuming playing Stanford , Cal , Santa Clara , USF and even SJSU would be good competition regardless of the age differences. If these guys are pros already and are in some cases going to be playing against what hypothetically would be players who are 10,15 or even 20 years older, (as was the case with Rimando , Howard and Zlatan), I’m sure playing playing soon some 2-3 years older wouldn’t be that difficult.
This is a brand new competition that is in essence an "Open Cup" for the older academy teams. The Quakes have qualified for the second round that will be played in Florida in the first week of December at the IMG complex. In order to qualify for the 3rd and final round, the teams will have to win their group. Local Academy Silicon Valley Soccer Academy also qualified for round 2 in the U-17s, but all other U-17 clubs in Northern California were eliminated. Only the Quakes and De Anza Force will represent Northern Cal for the U-19s.
Wow Oakwood fooled me for a minute there. Their badge is almost identical to the previous Quakes one. Looks like MLS academies are well represented...as you would expect.
Final score @QuakesAcademy U17s beat Portland 6-1 and the score does not even represent how dominant the #Quakes74 were. Could have been double digit goals for SJ— Quakes2024 (@sjeq74) November 23, 2019
Big shout out to the SJ Ultras that came out Saturday to support the U-17s against the Portland Timbers. 6-1 win for the Quakes and it was even more lopsided than that. The Ultras sang, waved flags and lead cheers that energized the players. They even lit off blue and black smoke bombs at the end of the game and the players took pictures in front of the smoke and flags. Memories these guys will have for the rest of their lives thanks to the Ultras. I hope the front office took notice and will work with the Ultras next season so that they will feel welcomed....
The DA Winter Showcase starts tomorrow (Weds Dec 4). The Quakes U-19 game with be live streamed from the US Soccer website. Game starts at 2pm but I believe that is local time, so it's likely 11am for us. Go Quakes!

Lots of good possession, but they need to be more dangerous in the box. An early goal in the second half would be nice. It might force St Mary’s out of their bunker.
Cade Cowell is having himself a game. I’m gonna say it’s his best game ever in a Quakes uniform at any level. Two goals and an assist in a 3-1 game
Yo @EASPORTSFIFA,Cade’s pace should be at least 90.Just sayin’. 🤷♂️#DAWinterCup | #VamosSJ pic.twitter.com/y72lSU3XVp— Quakes Academy (@QuakesAcademy) December 4, 2019
Quakes U-17 team win their first round game against FC United 3-2. The U-19 team plays this afternoon against Miami Rush.
Great news! Quake's U-17s defeated Westchester FC 4-1. They will finish up play early Sunday morning against DA powerhouse Solar from Texas. If the Quakes win that game, they win the group and will move on to the Quarterfinals to be played in the spring. In the bad news department, the U-19s are in trouble to make the quarterfinals. The loss yesterday means they will need to beat the Philly Union U-19s by 4 goals or more and hope that Miami Rush doesn't crush Shattuck St Mary's. Philly may have the best DA team in the country, so the Quakes could end up being embarrassed if they don't play well.
Quakes U-19s beat Philly 2-1 but finish behind them on goal differential. Both goals by Cade Cowell so he had 4 for the tournament in 3 games playing up an age division. Great news for his confidence and development. The Quakes U-17s caught a break when Solar from Texas was upset 1-0 yesterday. The Quakes will play them tomorrow at 6am and if the Quakes win or tie they advance to the elite 8 Spring Tournament.
