Which player is most poised to enter next year's 22 Under 22? BOEHM: Who's next?! Maybe readers should take a look at my 2018 22U22 list! It featured plenty of talent snubbed by others this year, but whose names will be in many mouths in 12 months' time. But setting that future-brag aside, I'm watching the San Jose Earthquakes and their academy closely these days. Arguably no MLS team has made less use of a talent-rich backyard than the Quakes traditionally have, though there are signs of positive change over the past year or so. Gilbert Fuentes and Jacob Akanyirige are extremely legit prospects; will they get the chance to show it with the first team?

Always a pleasure @alianzadefutbol. The @SJEarthquakes will always be here to support the Latin Community.. https://t.co/Va9ivqptIW— BRUNO COSTA (@BrunoCosta1111) October 4, 2018 Im glad the Quakes Reps Attended Alianza this year. Who knows maybe we'll sign a player or 2.
Maybe one day the Quakes can be one of "the usual suspects" but for now, 0 players across the two lists... https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018/10/12/mls-players-are-well-represented-usls-20-under-20-rankings A week after MLSsoccer.com released our 22 Under 22 rankings, USLsoccer.com released their 20 Under 20. As you might expect, MLS clubs well represented on the list, with 19 of the players tied to MLS clubs. LA Galaxy's Efrain Alvarez topped USLsoccer.com's rankings and was No. 17 on MLSsoccer.com's 22 Under 22. Atlanta's Andrew Carleton and Sporting Kansas City's Jaylin Lindsey made both lists. Alvarez's Galaxy II teammate Ethan Zubak came in at No. 2. The usual suspects had the most players on the 20 Under 20: FC Dallas (3) with Jesus Ferreira, Brandon Servania and Adonijah Reid; Seattle Sounders (3), with Rodrigue Ele, Denso Ulysse and Sam Rogers; New York Red Bulls (3), with Hassan Ndam, Cristian Casseres Jr. and Ben Mines.
An incredible moment for the #SJEacademy alum! 👏Congrats to @ardab99 on his first career goal and game-winner for @StanfordMSoccer! pic.twitter.com/kgCaZUrQu2— Quakes Academy (@QuakesAcademy) October 15, 2018
Barca Academy (@BarcaAcademyAZ) continues to pick-up some top prospects from MLS Academies. Ex-SJ Earthquakes and U.S. U15 BNT midfielder Diego Luna is the latest addition to the Barca U16/17 roster.— J.R. Eskilson (@JREskilson) October 18, 2018
Stuart Ritchie (17 y/o SJE Academy product LB) debuts for Groningen senior team in friendly match We don't need a left back, right?
Tenorio: MLS contemplating removing homegrown territories, allowing teams to scout in each others’ regions Here are the old MLS Homegrown Territory maps (this predates Atlanta, Minnesota, and LAFC): If this happens the Quakes need to set up something in the LA metropolitan area, where the Galaxy have been squandering what is by far the best soccer player pool in the country for the last decade. Far more realistic is that other teams will poach NorCal kids from us...

So....the Quakes were 7th in Homegrown minutes out of 23 teams, though you can probably disregard Minnesota, Atlanta and LAFC since they have not been around long enough to develop players.
Losing Diego Luna to Barca really sucks for SJE. He will be dominating midfield for somebody in the near future. The thing with Barca's Academy in AZ is offers so much more than what the Earthquakes currently offer. A player like Diego would be stupid to sell himself short and stay here.
@don gagliardi Do you know any dentists along Forrest Ave.? Dr. Campisi retired but he still ows the buildings...
You been eating too much of your own candy? Got a toothache? My dentist is in the City of Santa Clara.
Glad Gilbert Fuentes got some minutes. It will be interesting to see if Almeyda will develop him. May as well start him next year as he couldn’t do much worse.
Not to mention that it'd be pretty cool if his full name really is Glad Gilbert Fuentes. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Much like when in 2007, Stephen Colbert changed the pronunciation of his last name to the French style and suggested that both Tim Russert (a Buffalo native) and Bert (of Sesame Street fame) do the same? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
In college, a friend from Chicago who introduced me to the blues, laughed at me when I saw an album of Buddy Guy music and pronounced it Buddy Gee (with a hard G).
