That may not be a huge deal but still great news in that it's another first.
19 years old, glad to see we're moving guys to our USL team at that age instead of after they're done with college.

Wow is this a first? I don’t know if I’ve ever seen any academy team on tv!

One of the academy teams was on TV for this same tournament last year. Against Tottenham, maybe one other game if I remember correctly.

UniDeportes does this occasionally. I’ve seen FC Dallas and RSL youth academies play in tournaments on their channel as well

I watched the first half. If this is an indication of the direction the team is going. I like it. They may have lost, but they were playing out of the back despite the heavy pressure the other team was applying. Looking to play through the middle with a central playmaker.

Yeah they were playing with a system and didn't just boot the ball up field whenever they were in trouble. I didn't watch, but they won both games today 1-0 including against the Galaxy.

I saw that page but his Wiki page says Andre Luis is still in fact an academy coach. He lives in Campbell and I ran into him a year or so ago and he was wearing Quakes gear but not sure if he is still with the organization or not.

In yesterday's game vs. LA, the Quakes captain (sorry I didn't memorize his name) was about 4'10", 85 pounds. A little guy, good on the ball, unafraid to mix it up with the bigger players. I think he got a yellow card at some point in the second half. On the last play, the LA keeper was in the SJ penalty area to try to equalize on a free kick and fouled the SJ keeper. Captain Mighty Mouse confronted the much bigger LA keeper, sticking up for his teammate. Other baby Quakes had to restrain him. Then there was a team meeting on the field that included Holocher, I think, to turn the scuffle into a teaching moment.

The kid will probably flame out and needs to channel his energy better, but he is just 13 or 14. Loved the passion and team spirit. I hope he makes it to the professional ranks.

That happens to many youngsters. I’ve seen many through the years and by the time they graduate HS, I never see them again.

There're already too damn many "academies" in the Bay Area. Liverpool, Barcelona, Red Star, Thorns, etc., etc. IMO, it's ruining youth soccer - making it a competitive marketplace focused on results and the bottom line rather than focusing on developing the kids. All of these international clubs are simply pursuing the apparently bottomless pool of money offered by parents in this area. I have run into some coaches in these academy clubs at a very young level (e.g. U8, U10) that I would not, as a parent, let anywhere near my kids. Some really nasty people out there with some really bad attitudes. As a referee, I try to do what I can to counter this, but some of these parents are pathetically clueless, and are easy marks for these folks.

The player I’m most curious about is Amir Bashti. Any word on him lately? Of the academy players we’ve signed this year, I’m surprised he hasn’t signed yet.
Im guessing he isn’t done at Stanford yet, but will sign once the next season finishes?

I posted “this is how they play in my home country /town”.

It’s basically a play upon a word and a double entendre or double implication whereas in Italian “paese” means country or nation but it also means hometown.

I.E. my nation Italy and/or my hometown San Jose.
