"ACADEMY UPDATE: November 27, 2017" (SJEarthquakes.com - Monday, 11/27/17) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
MLS shouldn't follow Liga MX in forcing its teams to play young domestic players, but it should reward the clubs that do give minutes to American and Canadian youngsters. Jumping into the think tank for my newest column: https://t.co/QejMmoIyrA— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) November 29, 2017 Tabulated how many minutes each MLS team gave to U-21 American and Canadian players in 2017. Totals include pre-birthday minutes played by players who turned 21 during season. RSL clobbered everyone in this category. pic.twitter.com/42MsZkArmg— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) November 29, 2017 0 minutes for Toronto, Seattle, New England, Minnesota, Houston, DC, Columbus... and not much better from Columbus, Dallas, Atlanta, NYCFC, and Colorado. Same table, now including players of all nationalities. Far more encouraging for those who want to see the kids play. NYCFC move way up thanks to Harrison and Herrera. SKC, too, thanks to Blessing and Salloi, who turned 21 during season. pic.twitter.com/Dt9NUt0WX1— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) November 29, 2017
We would have probably have been "0" also, or very, very close to that, if Dom coached through the end of the season.

Former Academy player Marcinkowski appears to be signing. https://www.washingtonpost.com/amph...alkeeper-leaving-early-to-sign-with-mls-club/
hmmm i wonder if Bingham will end up at LAFC? i just heard the expansion draft is next week. Or because he is out of contract, he is therefore not subject to the expansion draft? And LAFC (or anyone else) would pick him up in a waiver-or-whatever-it's-called draft?
Stanford just became national champs for the third straight year, Jeremy Gunn becomes the first college coach to win three straight championships since Bruce Arena won four straight at Virginia from 1991-94... given the success Arena (and more recently Caleb Porter) had in going from leading dominant college programs to MLS, he should probably be in consideration for MLS jobs. 🏆 isn't going anywhere. ☝️✌️👌Stanford 1 - Indiana 0#GoStanford pic.twitter.com/VpqOuOFC9u— Stanford Men’s Soccer (@StanfordMSoccer) December 10, 2017 Left our legacy.#GoStanford pic.twitter.com/CYWnt8hFuj— Stanford Men’s Soccer (@StanfordMSoccer) December 10, 2017 Some Impressive Stats On @StanfordMSoccer 3 Peat:- Didn’t Concede A Goal In 2016 Or 2017 NCAA Tourneys- 12 Game Postseason Shutout Streak Of 1200+ Minutes- Last Postseason Loss In Nov 2014 pic.twitter.com/lTV4Gj5TD5— DMV Soccer (@DMVSoccer96) December 10, 2017 Is Gunn still involved with the Quakes academy? I found this from 2013: https://www.sjearthquakes.com/post/2013/01/25/stanfords-jeremy-gunn-joins-academy-staff Also, how is Amir Bashti doing at Stanford, should he be in consideration for a homegrown deal?
To partially answer my own question, it looks like Bashti had 6 goals 2 assists in 17 games, but he only started 6 games... http://www.gostanford.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7009 http://stanford_ftp.sidearmsports.com/msoc/2017/gbg/gbg 11.pdf 2017: 17 games, 6 starts, 6G 2A 2016: 23 games, 4 starts, 2G 3A 2015: 21 games, 1 start, 4G 2A Based on the game dates it doesn't look like the 2017 stats include the tournament, not sure how he did there... in any case congrats to Bashti on being (as a junior) one of the these 17: 939959906651717632 is not a valid tweet id
Even though Thompson and Lima were Quakes homegrown players, in reality the team was not all that responsible for their development. It looks like we're finally seeing legitimate Quakes development academy players at the professional level, first Marcinkowski who has been with the organization for years, and now Akanyirige becomes the first to be signed without first attending college.... Earthquakes Sign 15-Year-Old Defender Jacob Akanyirige to Homegrown Player Contract
NYRB fans seem to think he's pretty decent and a good signing for them... they're probably tops in MLS when it comes to their pipeline from development academy to USL to MLS. New York Red Bulls sign forward Stefano Bonomo from USL affiliate The New York Red Bulls have turned to their USL affiliate for their latest attacking reinforcement, announcing Monday the signing of forward Stefano Bonomo from New York Red Bulls II. Bonomo, 24, has spent the last three seasons with the Red Bulls' USL squad after being selected in the second round (No. 39 overall) of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. He is the fifth player to be promoted from NYRB II to the first team. ... Bonomo has played 3,455 minutes across 53 games in his three seasons in the USL. He enjoyed his best offensive campaign in 2017, scoring 13 goals and two assists in just 16 games. In total, he has registered 21 goals and seven assists for NYRB II, also helping them to the 2016 USL Shield and USL Cup titles.
Stefano Bonomo is a good kid and pretty good player. He was ok at CAL when he was starting out but he has improved immensely since his freshman year. He is one of those players who needed time to grow as s forward. I’m glad he finally signed with NYRB first team...
