Soccer America is reporting that San Antonio will have a franchise in the NASL starting 2012. Here is the article. http://www.socceramerica.com/article/39862/san-antonio-set-to-join-in-2012.html If that happens, it should make the decision NASL or USL Pro easier for the Aztex. Having a local rivalry should help attendance and reduce travel costs.
I would agreee, Al. If the Aztex and the SA team play in the same league, it will help span a Central Texas rivalry that will go a long ways toward bringing folks to the game (I hope). I look forward to the league issues getting sorted out, and knowing where we are next year, with an eye towards 2012.
I think Midland/Odessa is more likely to at this point. They've been drawing much better than El Paso. But it's only their second year. Probably too early to go calling for them to move up.
The Crocketteers are looking forward to our I-35 rivalry. Soon we need to start thinking of a name for our derby.
Well, on a Texas scale, we're within spittin' distance of each other. Not many people chew anymore, but I suggest a spittoon. It's bizarre. It's unique. And I haven't a clue where one would find one.
El Classico Real for the Real Spittoon. We can try to get impoverished royalty to spit in it once, to qualify it as Real. I'm sure 20 bucks to the current Duke of Luxembourg would be enough.
If the Aztex play Midland (Odessa doesn't merit mention in the team name), I might be conflicted since I am a proud native of the Tall City. Midland has a habit of puttin a whoopin on Austin teams (See 2000 5A champ game. Midland Lee vs. Westlake).
Lee grad here too. My little bro has a nice ring from that game. Funny. Odessa doesn't merit mention for many reasons. And if Midland ends up with a pro soccer team, then I'd be shocked. Not sure if they'd really support it with HS sports and AA baseball. But I haven't lived there in almost 20 years so who knows.
We met most of you in Austin for the first time when we first started the Crocketteers. The Crocketteers are 18 months old and in 18 months from now (Apr 2012) the team we dreamed about supporting will take the pitch. 18 + 18 = 36 months the Crocketteers will have been in existence when that day comes. I can't help but be amazed by the uncanny refence to the year 1836. We clearly chose the right historical reference to base our supporters group on. Here's to hoping San Antonio is playing Austin that first match in San Antonio.
Apparently the Austin Posse have at least come back with a website and nebulous promises... www.austinposse.com
Wow, that's a lot of mud to sling for a team that has a really poor history. Making the sort of claims about Division 2, and the Aztex, without stating that what you're going to do to better it is weak. If they think Division 2 is so poor, than what are they planning? MLS? Really. Come on, the rumor last week that Austin will be relocating to Orlando has more legs than the Austin Posse.
What? I think a single post on a generic Wordpress blog -- hosted by Wordpress, not even on their own domain -- with zero details and a broken Twitter feed all add up to easy, instant success. They'll probably skip MLS and go straight to the Premiership. What a joke. And the fact that this zero-content, zero-effort site tells me that I deserve better than "second tier anything" just makes it that much richer.
Actually, I think he would've been, if federal authorities could have found him after he skipped town. The Posse was just a minor part of his antics.
We're trying to get a San Antonio subforum under NASL. Please go to the link below and vote for us. Thanks. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1565013
On occasion I get emails from folks asking for clarity on "rumors". This was one instance where one of those talked about Austin moving to Orlando. I checked with the FO as part of my due diligence, and confirmed that it was not true. Wasn't surprising as I could find a number of reasons that this was unlikely.
mgray, Just heard Ep. 8 of In the Mixer. Great podcast. Just came back to tell you that we are are passionately excited about the SA NASL team. I see your point about our messaging not showing the passion. I'll tell Steve Arters, our VP Media/Marketing to construct better messaging that truly captures the emotions we feel. Haha. Thanks. perhaps when both Austin/SA are in the same d2 league, we can do a joint podcast concerning Texas d2 soccer. In the meantime, we don't know squat about making one.
