I think the current number is still $150. In Sac's case, the cost of the stadium increased to $250 from 175 or 200 while the league screwed around with Beckham.
The cost of the stadium is separate from the expansion fee. The fee is $150 million for spots 25/26 (or 24 depending on where you slot Miami).
Yes, I know. I was pointing out that the stadium cost is where his $250M figure might have come from, not the expansion fee.
And the cost of expansion is generally quite a bit higher than that when you factor in all the other costs associated with building out and operating an MLS team these days and all the associated needs/requirements from practice facilities to academy systems and scouting networks and so on. It definitely isn't for the faint of heart or those with limited cash flow.
The debut of the weekly @SacRepublicFC hour is tomorrow at 11am on KHTK. I will talk to Kevin Nagle about the upcoming season, and we will spend a ton of time laying out the path to MLS. Check it out!— Carmichael Dave (@CarmichaelDave) March 10, 2018 There better be a podcast version of this.
I listened to about 1/2. Lots of owner-speak, as you might expect, with CD pitching the softest of softballs. The only interesting thing was the claim that they had a whale "eliminated" just before the presentation to MLS. Whatever that means.

according to this tweet, yes. Nagle Burkle and KJ 😳🤔🤔🤔 pic.twitter.com/lHVgS7Dv8z— John (@HeuristicLineup) March 15, 2018
okay, freaking patience hell...... "right investor", piss on that. Literally do not care if its a conglomeration of the Patriots, Lakers, and Yankees at this point. I dont care if its a can of almonds. This is getting too nerve racking and too dangerous, even with Cincinnati being given the ball and dropping said ball. Phoenix is licking its chops right now.
Was there some recent news or posting that prompted this response? I've been wanting to hear something.. anything... for weeks.
nope, just because i havent heard anything in for weeks, its getting insantely frustrating and teeth gnashing
"The club remains in discussion with several potential investors, some of whom already have ownership interests in other sports leagues. Among them is Ron Burkle, a 65-year-old Californian who holds a stake in the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins." How many more discussions do they need to have?? Get a ******* deal done, Nagle and Co!
Nix the Kim Jong Un....he'd change the name to Sacramento People's Democratic Republic. I can't hang with that, and besides, it would screw up the TBB chants.
When Iraq were knocked out of the 2000 Asian Cup, Saddam Hussein's son had the players' feet whipped. For failing to qualify for the 1994 World Cup they had been dragged through a gravel pit, immersed in a sewage tank and forced to kick a concrete football.
aaaand Cincinnati pulled off the comeback, securing their downtown West End stadium with a 5-4 vote. All but certain theyve passed sacramento now as all that remains is the blessing of MLS Getting really tiresome seeing Sacramento getting passed up by so many cities (albeit their ownerships fault).
Complete own goal on that front. Nagle kicked off the party by not initially securing the "Republic" name for the initial bid, and then they sent Darrell "Wormtail" Steinberg instead of somebody, anybody, with a pulse and some semblance of a soul to rep the city back in NYC. Warren Smith and KJ would have gotten this thing done. Kevin Nagle and Darrell Steinberg have been screwing the pooch so much that half the Front Street pound is pregnant. Gratz to Cincinnati, though - that fan base and that ownership deserves the MLS shot. Our fan base deserves it, but our ownership group needs to be taken out back and put out of our misery. #NagleOut
Absolutely. Nagle has been in over his head from the beginning. Submitting the bid without Republic was a big eye opener for me, and he has bungled this every step of the way. Sacramento should have been a shoe-in for an expansion location. Everything is lined up except for a big money investor(s). For some reason, every other city out there (including ones that aren't "finalists" in this round of expansion, like Phoenix) can get big money investors, but Sacramento can't get anyone? What the hell is going on?
