.... Sources telling me #MLS (non-Miami ) expansion announcement will be made the first week of March. Cincinnati almost certain to be selected. Detroit likely to be one of the two remaining expansion cities w/ one slot remaining. Final two likely to be determined by the end of 18'.— Kartik Krishnaiyer 🇺🇦🌻⚽️ (@kkfla737) January 18, 2018
Granted, it's Kartik, so he's always hoping that there will be a lifeline for the Cosmos in there somewhere, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. Kevin Nagle and Darrell Steinberg have taken all the momentum that Warren Smith and KJ built up, and have utterly pissed it away. All of my pro-SRFC peeps around here are beaten down and discouraged, and some are wondering if the team itself will survive if it gets passed up for MLS. We had all the momentum, all the drive, all the passion, and then Kevin Nagle stepped in. It's a God-damned shame.
Do you really think that all of that passion will be lost? You have a great base and that should not be lost nor should the team. The new stadium should be a boost over the temporary injury trap you now have. It is sad that the momentum was lost.
Well, the new stadium ain't happening until MLS gets green-lighted, so there's that. Protip: Supporters of a team that plays on a baseball field shouldn't be talking about anybody else's field being an "injury trap".
Protip: Who said the field was an injury trap. I said your stadium. Your stands are falling apart. Wise move on the stadium I think. Too bad on the loss of your money investor(s). Hopefully you can overcome Nagle.
Ah. Yes, GNF is a bit more...substantial...than PMP, but what's the fun of going to a footy game if you're anywhere close to 100% safe? The top of Mt. TBB may be shaky, but it's fun as hell up there. You just learn to roll with the sway. You should come down for a match when the American River Parkway's on fire. Good times.
I'll bet it is. Any plans for a permanent stadium if no MLS? I don't think the location is all that bad, so maybe just a little rehab on Mt.TBB?
Based on what facts are currently available, my estimate is that MLS is looking for somewhere in the minimum $550M-$600M range in PLEDGED assets from the ownership group. Just because you might have a "billionaire" in the ownership group doesn't mean that the ownership group now has a billion dollars in assets. If they only have a 10% ownership stake, then most likely all they are pledging is what that 10% is worth. Just a hunch.....but I kind of get the impression that KN was hoping that others would do the heavy financial lifting while he maintained the majority ownership stake. Lastly, momentum without money only gets you so far.
Welp, looks like Cincy has their stadium question worked out, and SRFC is now sucking hind tit behind Detroit in the current three cities for one bid contest. Miami may finally have its shit together as well. If either San Diego or Phoenix get together a bit that's anywhere near competent, SRFC-to-MLS is toast. #NagleOut.
I'm afraid it is now or never for SRFCE. And I've had a gut feeling that the buzz was unwarranted for quite a while. I hate when I'm right like that. I really hope I'm wrong.
Jeff Berding (GM, FC Cincy) said that he will have an answer on MLS expansion by the end of the month. I fear the pendulum is beginning its swing in an opposite direction.
Random bar guys are generally pretty solid sources, so I'm back to thinking we're in! (or delusional) 961313729970257920 is not a valid tweet id
Coming soon from Kartick "sources, who I can't name, indictate to me that Sacramento nay be close to securing a possible investor and MLS may consider accepting Sacramento's bid at some point.
