SPFC breaking their winless streak with a 2-0 lead on Benfica. Had to be the Portuguese league....

The league would be far worse without foreigners.

    The don't use Portuguese players

Obviously foreigners are good for the league but they take it too far

I sympathize with Sporting in Portugal, as they were the club of Zico's dad and Zico also liked them. I just hope you aren't expecting anything from Gerson Magrao...

Only now caught highlights of today's game.

Some starters returned to Brazil after the Benfica game, and while it's not good to lose, there's a redemption in how the team lost. Down 0-2, the team tied (after Kashima Antlers missed a PK). The 3rd Kashima goal happened because the ball bounced off a player and threw off R. Ceni. I was hoping for PKs.

Still, to come back to tie it after being down 0-2 is a good sign. I hope that this signifies the worst is over and that the team now climbs up in the rankings. I am not particularly worried we'll be relegated, although this is mathematically possible at the moment. My ideal scenario would be a league finish around 10th place and a repeat of the Copa Sul-Americana title. This latter result sounds extremely optimistic, and it is. I won't be surprised if it doesn't happen. But if it does, the team returns to the Libertadores, and if Paulo Autuori gets a considerably improved roster between December and February, we SPFC fans can perhaps dream of a 2014 in which we contend for at least one international cup.

I'm sure they will be a lot of Brazilian fans rooting against SPFC in this tournament because of this, as they will take the 4th qualifying spot from the Brasileirao if it happens.

Well, if the team's play doesn't improve substantially, they may not have to root all that hard. Still, it's only August 7 and SPFC doesn't play in the Sul-Americana for a little while. Hopefully SPFC will be playing better than, and in a mata-mata, anything can happen.

wow, São Paulo lost to Portuguesa yesterday (some sport newspapers that follow a more comic line said Portuguesa avenged Benfica´s loss) and is now second to last. But it has one more game than Nautico, the last in the table.

I wonder if one more will fall to Serie B. If São Paulo falls, that will leave only Inter, Santos, Cruzeiro and Flamengo as teams that never played the B, right?

Why didn't SPFC and Santos compete in every Brasileirão?

We're the paulistas late to join?

Due to a controversy in 1979 where Sao Paulo, Santos, Corinthians and Portuguesa asked to get a bye to 3rd stage, refused to participate in second stage and was replaced by other teams. At this time the brasileiro or rather Copa Brasil as it was called consisted of many qualification stages.

A light in the gloomy darkness of Sao Paulo
I must say what a great goal by young Lucas Evangelista, definitely one of the best individual goals so far in Brasileiro.
Despite all negative, I still think Sao Paulo will recover later on, still much left of Brasileiro.

Wow 19th place. We can't get relegated. I am now getting scared. There is time but we lost to ********ing Portuguesa!! There is still time we can turn it around but now it is getting worrisome.

Yea I saw a good portion of it and was impressed with Ganso. What happened to Ademilson? I saw he got subbed in the first hallf for Lucas Evangelista.

Paulo Autuori has been fired, and supposedly Muricy Ramalho is the target (or, according to some sources, has already been signed).

If true - this could be the new beginning I've been hoping for.
