Get your posts in now before the pre-season thread closes for 2015! Here's some news: I bought three tickets for the opening game. But not for me.
That $3.6M cap number continues to shock me. It really hampers Free Agency IMO - I'm surprised the players took it. 1. Consider that MLS just raised minimum salaries. 2. Every team is getting hit by that...for at least a few hundred thousand. 3. Intuitively that HAS to be a cap squeeze. For all we know the CBA may have put some teams over the cap overnight. 4. Consider Free Agency. Everyone's talking about who's eligible. What I'm asking is - what teams will have cap space to go after anyone aggressively? If anything, it's teams like Chivas USA (RIP Shitheads) that would have either the cap space or the DP slots to actually do this. The big money teams aren't in a great place right now with this cap situation. …Unless… Speculation: Because the impact of the minimum salary increase isn't uniform and will hit some teams more than others - this really feels like a case for Garberbux, and I could see the league dumping allocation $ this year to help teams fill in the gaps...just making it as if there were no salary increase, so their cap situation is just as it was pre-CBA. After all, how could any GM be expected to manage the cap around unknowns like the CBA?
Keep in mind that most of the min players don't count against the cap. (roster spots 21-30 or whatever it is)
No one out of market sees Philips or Garcia coming. And beyond those guys - if Plata/Sabo can get/stay healthy they'll get 10 goals each at least.
IMO even if the experts were down on us they were being kinda realistic about their expectations. Simon Borg on the other hand... I feel like RSL is being very overlooked and I'm alright with that. Seems whenever the media is praising us is when we usually go into a rut of some sort.
Since MLS will be regular on SkySports in the UK, I looked at what they are writing in their team by team preview. I don't know about other teams, but for RSL they misspell the coach's name and I've never known that song to be sung. I've not been in the stadium for a lot of years, though. (This year, we will attend a home game, details and requests for tickets to come.) http://www1.skysports.com/football/...portland-timbers-heres-our-team-by-team-guide
What's with the cRapids and Adidas swiping RSL's colors for their jerseys - now the victory gold style too! Who at RSL pissed in Adidas' cornflakes? Manning?
I guess it's MLS and addidas way of growing the 4th best rivalry in MLS. Is it still? Even with Kaiser Pablo in charge in not feeling it much anymore.
Is there any color that the Crapids haven't used in a kit? Is there a more schizo team with less of an identity? I don't think so. Pick a color or two and try sticking with it for more than a year.
Why doesn't RSL put the Utah state flag on their uniforms? I might not like Colorado, but I think that is kinbd of cool.
Because the Utah flag is boring and looks like about two dozen others. The Colorado flag, imo, is one of the most easily identifiable flags in the country. Along with Arizona, California, Maryland, Texas, and a couple others. A beehive would be cool, though.
This whole flag-on-a-jersey thing might work better if we were Real Utah. I guess we could put the Salt Lake flag on a jersey: Meh. Maybe it should be Sandy's flag, except I don't think there is one. Just trying to get another off-topic post in here before the thread is mercifully put to death.
The flag itself is boring and not impactful in any way, it is too similar to too many other state flags. A beehive alone would be cool. Something like this (except in color) would be awesome:
Aaaaaannnd . . . scene. With Chicago at LA about to kick off, it's time to shift to the in-season thread.
