I agree with all of the names except Espindola. That cannot be him... plus, I don't ever remember us playing with 3 strikers before. As far as team strength? No way. Today's team would run through those guys. Aside from the guys we still have (Beckerman and Beltran) the only guy in that group that would start today would be Olave. There is a reason Yura is gone. Mantilla lasted a short time because he wasn't good enough regularly. I'll take Rimando over Seitz. Rusnak over Williams. Cutler and Findlay? Really? They were fun during their time, but they were the epitome of MLS 1.0.
It was. I distinctly remember Matias Mantilla scoring a header off an Andy Williams cross early in the match.
I just looked up the 2008 roster (the year they played in the green and white. It has to be a midfielder as I know 4 defenders and 2 strikers out of that group. Can it be?... The glass man himself? Nathan Sturgis and one of his 8 appearances with RSL and one of 3 in 2008?
It's Matias Cordoba. Come on, you RSL originals. I thought better of you! Cordoba didn't like being away from home so he left the team.
Wait, there's more... Check this out, from Getty Images. How's that for old MLS? At least they got our name right!
Sorry to bomb this thread, but I took photos at that match and it starting snowing like crazy just before half time. It was the famous Orange Ball match at Rice Eccles...
Someone at work asked if Beckerman retired. I laughed and said that his dreads were retired. I think we stand a chance if we get a snow storm or some other bad weather.
Definitely Mati. He actually didn't agree with what Kreis was asking him to do. Felt that he was an attacking player and Kreis was asking him to be a box-to-box guy.
Sorry about the crappy photo hosting messages in my prior post. I haven't used them in... a long time.
My memory is that he was homesick, but that the fact that he hadn't been integrated into the team was a bigger issue. I remember him being very frustrated with how Kreis wanted to use him.
