Honestly, watching the run of play and possession I wouldn't say this should be a 2-0 game. But a few key plays made a big difference. A bad pass, an unlucky bet legit foul in the box, and now the red card. With all of that maybe we are lucky it's only 2-0. Does Petke seek to slow the damage and bunker in a bit or does he throw his philosophy of a loss is a loss so go for broke approach at the second half?
Yikes, Silva's turn with the bad turnover and BOOM. Both his and Herrera's left us terribly out of position. Red to Silva now?
There’s your answer. In the 63rd he subs in Boffo for Ruiz. I like it. What I don’t like are the give aways in our own half. Silva has been terrible with his passing.
He can thank RSL for that one. It probably never happens with a full side marking up on a corner but you can't take away the great execution of a volley straight into the net. Will certainly make and maybe win goal of the week.
If Herrera is this bad with his left foot, we can't play him on the left and ask him to control the ball/play it out of the back. Just can't, even if his positioning and play is otherwise savvy.
But with 4-0, oops now 5-0, I'm tuning out. Points result not a surprise here. Until the red card I was actually impressed by RSL's high pressure, good possession at times and some better understandings of where players need to be rather than on top of each other. The bad stuff was either a bit unlucky or things that I hope can be worked on (distribution from the back). Despite the result I actually come away feeling a bit better about the coming months rather than worse.
Bofo with our only two shots of any significance on the night, while playing with nine. He was the most dangerous attacker in the preseason too. So, start him.
No willingness to spend money on guys who don’t lay by the pool all day or are so bad they can’t make the 18. Seriously though, our model is to not buy stars thecway other clubs do (ATL’s payroll is 5x RSL’s), but to develop them in the academy. Which is interesting since Waibel recently said the academy products have not been good enough to bring up. I might be generalizing a bit.
Ours are too busy relaxing poolside. Man, I'm glad I shut this off after the red. I missed a bit driving home from work, but got to see both goals and the red. After that I knew barring some incredible miracle we were done. Checked back to see we gave up 3 more, and another red.
I don't think the club knows wtf they want to do.There's plenty of quality DP's out there, yet we seem to be incapable of identifying and/or paying for them over the last few years. And we clearly aren't focusing on academy players, because we seem to lose them before being willing to sign them. Then watch them go on to have success away from us.
You’ve summed it up nicely. I’ve harped on this for several seasons. I don’t think the organization has effective leadership. The problem originated with the owner and trickles down from there.
Lots of folks elsewhere are bemoaning the "terribleness" of the referee in this one. Gantar was fine; none of the calls that went against us were anything like the PK we got last week. Just because plays like Savarino's high kick and Silva's stomp aren't particularly malicious doesn't mean they aren't cards. Studs to the face is serious foul play; serious foul play is a red card.
I had no problem with any of the cards. They were all deserved per the rules of the game, and he was consistent. The only way he could have done better is if he had called the handball we committed in the box.
