Here we go with the last of our five games against the "easy" teams we'll face through the end of the season, Montreal Impact. They have 5 wins, 3 losses, and 2 draws in their last ten games; we are 4-3-3 in the same span. They had a good draw at Portland a couple of weeks ago but only have 7 points in 12 road games overall. Montreal also made three moves on Deadline Day: swapped Dominic Oduro to San Jose for Quincy Amerikwa, traded a fourth round pick to Colorado for Michael Azira, and signed former French international right back Bakary Sagna to a 1.5 year deal (he had been rumored to sign with Atlanta until Montreal swooped in). But enough about them, what about us?
what about us? Same XI. Same style. We'll probably get a draw or win, but it'll feel really weird not using our best player in the process very much.
Ah, I'd forgotten - your foot's still in the boot, right? I kind of wish we were in the middle of one of those 3-games-in-8-days stretches, so Petke would have an excuse to get creative. Or at least not to start Kyle next to Damir.
been out of the boot for a month now, thank you very much. Though my surgeon made me fly with it to Hawaii. That was "fun". I remember folks on soapbox and such giving so much praise to Petke for realizing his problems during that schedule congestion. Now they're really quiet about it. Whats funny to watch is how quickly blame will be assigned to Damir (who is far from perfect, don't get me wrong) but how slow any of them are willing to say KB is the problem. It's baffling.
What's funny about all of it is that Sunny is a very flawed player too, he just looks so much better when paired with either of the two starters than the two do together that we've inflated his capabilities. We need a new starter for the KB5 position, and that person doesn't look to be on the current roster.
This current RSL team is like driving around around in your car with a tire with a slow leak. Every time they remember to put some air in the tire and switch up the line up a bit it looks and feels like everything is great. But when they just drive around on the old KB radial it just sucks all of the air out of the thing. It's like when you are driving down the road and you see a guy with a flat tire just obliviously cruising along and you stop at the light and roll down your window to let him know he has a flat and he just nods his head and drives merrily away. After he drives away you just shrug your shoulders and say hey, that was Craig Waibel. Horrible analogy but this team is sucking the life out of fans. It's time to get a fresh set of tires and quit trying to get by with what they have. Alright, we'll call it a draw.
I really don't get what Sunny (and Acosta) has to do to prove their worth to Petke. It's become absurd. People railed Cassar, rightfully, for not rotating players. Yet...
Pretty much everything that ailed us going into the secondary transfer window is on display in tonight's lineup: center forward, defensive midfield, depth on the backline.
"What did you think of the first 15?" Dunny is asked. "All one-sided, all RSL" is the response. We split possession and had no shots, while they had that 3 on 2 break. Since the 15, we've pressed. Great shot from Plata on the FK.
Still. We've been generous with our misses - but after that open net miss from them, that has gone both ways too. I really liked the layoff from Baird to Kreilach making the late run a few minutes ago.
He’s come out and allowed open net shots twice so far. I can see why he came out. If he hadn’t he was at the mercy of the striker.
We’ve been fortunate. Maybe there’s smoke in their eyes. I think there’s a Platters reference here somewhere.
