Those nice young men from the City of Lost Angels will be joining us this weekend for a soccer match at the RioT. Everyone, especially anyone who hails from Tinseltown, is shitting themselves with enthusiasm for this team, since they beat what’s left of the hapless Sounders last weekend. It’ll be such a treat to welcome the likes of Benny “Die a Slow, Painful Death, Cut Into A Thousand Tiny Pieces, You Rat Bastard” Feilhaber to town. I’m sure we’re all in agreement about exactly how much fun it will be to see him grace our pitch, and hopefully he knows that his feelings for our club are more than reciprocated. Game time 1:30 pm. KMYU Channel 2.2 or 12 or 643 or something, maybe on ESPN 700 I think but not sure. So let’s raise a glass of RSAle and a toast to this weekend’s game. Here’s to an RSL 4 – 0 LAFC thrashing. Cheers!
Worried for this game. LAFC looked really good on a few counters and might expose the gap between our relatively slow midfield and our backs
From game #1, I'd say LAFChivas has some work to do on the defensive end but it also showed that Rossi and Vela may be quite a duo for the league to contend with this season.
Statistics-wise the Sounders crushed LAFC in every category except the important one. That Vela/Rossi combination for the goal was really pretty. They seem to have a lot of chemistry.
LAFC should have scored in like the first minute, too, through Blessing. The point of attack this week will flip from our opponents. FCD went at our left side constantly, this week they'll go at our right. I'll be just starting the back nine at Sunbrook when this game kicks, so the chances of me actually catching much of it are slim to none. Especially with how glowing the reviews of the KSL app were last game. The XI I expect: Nicky Berry MSilva Glad Phillips KB Kreilach Sava Rusnak Plata LSilva Bench: Horwath, Horst, Acosta, Sunny, Luke, Bofo, Ortuno Not sure what result to expect. With it being a mid-day game my expectations always drop. Not sure why, but I feel the team doesn't play well before 7pm.
Afternoon games are always the worst. The sun beating down on you all game always seems to wear everyone out, even in colder weather.
Sounds like Henley might be ready for this one. Wouldn't be surprised to see him over Barry. Other than that, I would expect the rest to remain intact (assuming both Phillips and Savarino are fully healthy, which it sounds like is the case.) I didn't heat map it, but I felt like LAFChivas was much more balanced in the attack than we saw with Dallas. Rossi often was flaring in the left channel. Blessing typically had a bit more width on the right. Urena and Vela effectively worked into the central portion of the penalty area. Urena didn't seem as dangerous as the attacking midfield trio. Blessing really challenged the defense, but doesn't seem to have the final quality that Rossi and Vela have.
LaLa score late resulting in a bitter 2-2 draw Glad to hear we have another outside back in the platoon.
This game is going to be tough. I think RSL can win but LAFC looked pretty decent against Seattle. I'll be okay with a draw.
LAFC is probably going to start Ciman, Jakovic, and Beitashour on their backline, and Feilhaber in central midfield. That's 4 guys over 31. They all played well against Seattle, but we have more speed and athleticism than the Sounders do. LA definitely looked better than I thought they would, but I think their backline will struggle more with Plata-Rusnak-Savarino than they did with Dempsey-Lodeiro-Bruin.
Sounds like we'll see Horst tomorrow. RSL Soapbox reported (on facebook) that M Silva was injured in practice yesterday.
Mid-day match means 3:30 am for me Trying to decide whether or not to set the alarm. Anyway, predictions are pretty tough with a new LAFC team. They certainly got an unexpected result last week...but was it just fluke? Being at home I hope we get to see a bit more intentional and controlled play between the midfield and attack to see what kind of progress we have (maybe) made there. Looks like there is an another interesting broadcast option out there which highlights the RSL match this week. http://variety.com/2018/digital/news/twitter-mls-live-streaming-games-univision-1202722784/
And further reporting says it might not be so bad. At training today, Marcelo Silva came off the field, had a trainer stretch him out, and then left the session. Mike Petke’s comments: “We’ll see tomorrow.”Another comment says that Marcelo is listed as probable for today. I guess we'll see where things land when the lineup is announced.
