Must win game of the week, number one. We need six points, just like we need the last time we played at home and managed two. So we'll see.
We have to leap passed San Jose AND another team (Portland?) to get into the playoffs now. So....... MUST WIN!!!
I believe in what Al Davis used to say, "Just win, baby". Ugly winning soccer is much better than ugly losing soccer and it makes the fans happy.
Errrr...no thank you. I get what Petke is trying to do offensively. It's risky. It makes for an entertaining game. It is probably impossible for the players we have to play it the way it needs to be played (2 way outside backs please!!) I'd much rather watch them attack and combine and take risks than pump and run, pip a goal, and then sit back. We aren't the Crapids. I hope that our fan base is smart enough to know the difference between good entertaining soccer and Mastroeni ball.
I guess at the end of the day, I'm not a soccer purist who watches the game for the entertainment value. I watch the game because I want to see RSL win which is why you play the game.
Wondolowski coming off just setting a record for 8 straight seasons with 10+ goals. He may not always get it done for the Nats, but he is Mr. Consistency in MLS.
even if healthy I'm betting he's held out of this one as a precaution. Curious to see how squad rotation is done. Glad took a heavy hit to the shin on that goal line save. I would like to see him get a rest. He's been off lately. ******** Wingert. Tony typically is the kind of guy who can go multiple games but watch his back flare up if he does. Luke should slide in for KB. Sunny getting subbed in Montreal seems an easy choice to start here. Plata is a starter, right? Rusnak's young legs should get tested. Same with Savarino Lord help us if Yura starts over Luis... Lineup I would roll out: Lalo Tony Horst Schuler Acosta Luke Sunny Plata Rusnak Savarino Luis Bench: VanO, Dunk, Wingert, Bofo, Hernandez, Lennon, Yura
Keep Glad and Silva off the back line and this team gives up 3 goals. No way Silva, Plata, Savarino Rusnak make up that deficit.
I don't disagree, but rotation is absolutely needed. Not just to give guys a rest, but to have manage the 2018 roster. If Schuler goes out there and looks like the Schuler we all wished he could have been, then maybe we re-think cutting him. Or if Horst goes out there and shits the bed, we move on from him being our 3rd option.
Yeah, the Horst/Shuler pairing is not a good way to start a "MUST" win game. I don't like Luke being in there either, but I can see why Petke would give KB5 a night off.
"must win" mindset will likely mean Petke pulls a Cassar and doesn't rotate. Which means we might hold on for a point here and we'll look like complete ass against the cRapids. Also, thinking we're still making the playoffs will ******** part of the 2018 roster analysis. I guarantee it.
So by 15's logic we need to rest some players keep them fresh. Would that not also mean sitting Silva and giving Yura the start?
There's a lot of tickets left for this game. Might be one of the worst-attended games of the year. I guess 8:00 on a Wednesday night during a year like this one will do that. How come you'd start Lalo instead of the Colonel, 15? Is VanO still recovering? I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just kind of weird to see our #3 start before our #2.
lets not get crazy here... I actually kind of expect Yura to start, honestly. Luis looked gassed against Montreal.
Lalo has been on the bench lately. I wrote in VanO but then noticed he hadn't even made the 18 in a long while.
The Colonel played in the Monarchs last game. They tied 2-2 but were up 2-0. The first goal VanO probably should have stopped and I didn't see the second goal.
These are two teams that are most definitely in rebuild mode - so this should be an interesting match for you SL fans as well as us SJ fans. You guys are one of the few teams in the Western Conference towards whom (most of ) the Earthquakes fans do not have any real antipathy, so I generally am just interested to see what you bring and what we bring. both teams have a lot of injured players, so it's anybody's guess as to how we both line up. Oh yeah -- and I wonder if we will be looking past this match toward Sunday's matchup vs the water-stealing, smog-breathing, botox-injecting Filth...
