I'm feeling rather stupid in not being able to figure out how to get this on here - but there is a 1 on 1 video with Dunny and Petke on the RSL main page y'all need to watch. https://www.rsl.com/post/2017/10/25/conversation-between-dunny-petke-extended-version
It's unfortunate that Glad missed so much of the season with injury. U.S. could've used him in the Trinidad game. So now they just ignore him again when they should be calling up pretty much a whole team of 20s.
Expansion draft rules/timing has (finally) been announced LAFC gets 5 picks in total Each team can protect 11 players A team cannot lose more than one player Generation Adidas players and off-budget Homegrown Players are automatically exempt from selection and do not need to be protected (soapbox has a list of who that is)
Given the rules and the assumed list of players we don't need to protect (listed below) here is my protected 11: Tony Beltran Justen Glad Marcelo Silva Luke Mulholland Albert Rusnak Jefferson Savarino Joao Plata Brooks Lennon* Luis Silva Bofo Saucedo Yura Movsisyan** *It's TBD on if he is part of the auto protected list or not. I'm assuming not. If he somehow is, then Horst moves into this spot **This is not by choice. Yura's no trade clause makes it so we HAVE to protect him. The Craig Waibel ********up hits just keep coming! I didn't protect KB and Nicky because of their free agent status. Per the above Yura article Selection of Free Agents: If a Free Agent is selected in the Expansion Draft, the expansion club that selected the player will gain his previous club’s ability to renegotiate a new contract consistent with the CBA before the beginning of Stage 2 of the Re-Entry Draft. If an Out of Contract Free Agent is selected in the Expansion Draft and subsequently signs with his 2017 club via Free Agency, he will be subject to the compensation limitation for Out of Contract Players signing with a new Club, as provided in the CBA Auto Protected: Danilo Acosta (HGP, Supplemental) Omar Holness (GA) Ricardo Velazco (HGP, Supplemental) Jordan Allen (HGP, Reserve) Jose Hernandez (HGP, Reserve)
I wouldn't protect Luis. He's a classic "old expansion" candidate, but would carry comparatively little value to LAFC compared to who else we'll have available (Rimando and Beckerman for example). On those two, a lot depends on how negotiations are going and what their price point looks like.
yeah, the free agency thing has me a bit confused for Nicky and KB. I'd protect them if we get a deal signed prior to the expansion draft, regardless of what the numbers are. Bofo and Luis are, to me, the obvious options to slide out for KB and Nicky. Or Horst, if the Lennon HG tag works in our favor.
Didn't Velazco get suspended from all soccer-related activities? Doesn't that mean that he's no longer on the roster?
no, as you pointed out, he's suspended. Not removed. Though, the chances he'll be part of the team next year do seem really really bleak.
Lat year was 5 also. With all of the GAM and TAM and allocation money floating around, the expansion draft is much less useful than it once was.
I'd argue it's actually a boost for teams that get a player picked. With all the extra players that get lumped in, you're typically protecting around 15-17 players. If you lose one, they shouldn't be much of a contributor. In fact, you likely left them out there because their salary was hurting your budget. So, when you get a player picked (and get that 50K or whatever in return*) it's actually a boost for you. Note: I can't under state how ********ing terrible Craig Waibel did on this Yura deal. *this was the case last time, I haven't seen it confirmed to be the case this time
You're right. There were two teams with 5 picks each which is why I thought 10. My bad. I'll go back to sitting in the corner.
Can Yura waive his no trade for the draft? If not, can we buy out before draft so we don't have to protect him? Is there a window for that?
How about we trade Yura for Dwyer? That way Leroux would stay with the women’s team. It’s a win-win. <braces for 15’s response>
Not if he signs Yura to his NWSL team. That's for sure. But I care more about RSL, so I'm still advocating it.
USL is adding four new teams for next year, NC, Frenso, Nashville and Las Vegas. http://www.uslsoccer.com/news_article/show/857350?referrer_id=2333971
I know that not everyone here is a fan of the RSL Soapbox, but here's a chance to let them know what you'd like to see them do better/more of next year: It’s time to poll the audience: What do you want to see from RSL Soapbox in 2018? https://t.co/EVNoje3Eol— Wasatch Soccer Sentinel (@WasatchSentinel) November 16, 2017
don't worry, we have the 1st leg of the conference finals coming up. They definitely made sure to get them in the best time slot available given the international break. Th... THEY'RE ON A ********ING TUESDAY NIGHT?! Well surely the second legs, at the higher seed, will be on a bett... THEY ARE ON A WEDNESDAY. Wait. No. Only one game is... WTF THE OTHER IS ON A THURSDAY?!
