Im sure he will bring Mario in the second half to see who meshes better. Fair point though, Mario played really well last game. Looked like Mario of old

Given his age, 36, his experience can be beneficial as a coach, now as a player...

Fonte played very well v Belgium.. who have just as many talented players as Spain will showcase in a few days.. if it was about experience.. i would have let Fonte start this match and knock off some more rust.

I kind of feel this is about ensuring all 23 get a little game time, incase they dont see a minute come the tournament.

BINGO... It will be Joao Mario instead of Joao Moutinho for our starting XI. At least, that's what I'm hoping for.

Fonte will also take Bruno's place, most likely (unless he has a stellar game).

Rui, Cedric, Pepe, Fonte, Rapha, J.Mario, William, Bruno, Bernardo, Guedes & Cristiano

    That's one sexy line-up... lol

I would prefer Fonte too but he has also had some shaky starts for Portugal too. That may weigh on the coaches mind too.

Do they even use it for Friendlies? I don't think so... if so, that's a BS call.

That was a beauty. I might lose my mind if Portugal does stuff like that at the World Cup.

Jeez, Ronaldo needs to stop doing that kind of stuff. Guedes was WIDE OPEN in front of the goal.

Can they even go back? That was a LEGIT goal. Should be 2-0.

That's the thing with VAR - if offside is called on the field it isn't reviewable. So, basically, the linesmen need to let close plays go in case a goal is scored. If that happens, VAR can look at the lead-up to the goal and possibly take it away. However, they haven't adjusted to VAR, so they make bad calls that can't be reviewed.

VAR is a disaster. It's too limited. If a linesman calls offside when a player is three yards onside, nothing can be done. Outside of penalty calls/non-calls, VAR can only take away goals that are scored on the field rather than fix plays like the disallowed Ronaldo goal in this match.

You can feel that there's so much more danger in our attack when we cross into the box or if we counter when Ronaldo is there... It's like the opposing team shiets themselves. It allows other players to shine around Ronaldo.

I had to look it up again because I couldn't remember exactly why I hated VAR's application last summer. I'm sure fans are eager to see it taking goals away at the World Cup too!

Nice goal. Fernandes looks like he wants to start next Friday.
