The cantera job is to provide talents and potentials for the first team rather than winning any thing or promoting to higher divisions. It's understandable that they cant be dominating; their squad is changing dramatically every season.
Mariano will be 23 in a couple of days. It's time for him to continue his development at a higher level. Besides, we already promised him promotion to the senior team (or a loan) this season.

What an insane position to be for an early 20s - late teens Madridista playing for Castilla right now, where you're coached by a fan favourite in Solari who they'd have watched as a kid, to only be coached by Zizou if they're promoted to the first team. Heaven.
I think Castilla have lost all of their pre-season friendlies sadly. Edit: we have lost a lot of key players from the season before though. I hope the players find their rhythm soon.
