Galaxy legend. He deserves so much credit and respect for moving LA from an “almost” team to championship team. Can’t speak for his personal life, but professionally you’d be hard pressed to ask for a better/more fulfilling career. It’s not much consolation for his loved ones, but we should all be so lucky to find so much success in a field we love in our lifetime.
So sorry to hear of Sigi's passing. He was such an integral part of the team, our leader from the time I started watching the Galaxy seriously. He's the coach who opened the Home Depot Center, IIRC. He influenced so many players, so much of our Galaxy history. I will miss him. Sorry for his family to lose him on Christmas.
Health issues explain a lot about his coaching this past year. It never looked like a Sigi team, and I think we now know why. Such a classy guy off the field. Leaves a big hole. He belongs on the LAG wall of fame.
So sad to hear this news. Sigi never really took care of his health, but I always thought he would, at some point, lose some weight and get a little healthier. I even hoped that when he was fired this last summer it might help him to focus his energy on getting healthy. He was never my favorite coach, but was always a stand-up guy. There are very few coaches out there that achieved as much as he did. I wish his family the best.
He seemed very much like a good and honorable man. I wish peace and comfort for his family, and for him I wish that all the hopes and dreams of men --as to the rewards of a life well spent-- be realized.
Sigi was a great Hall of Fame Coach, he will be sadly missed. Let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
