One of my favorite Stuttering John questions Stuttering John: What did you do with the money? Ringo Starr: Wut munay? Stuttering John: The money your mom gave you for singing lessons.
Whattayou geriatric or sompin'? First guy is "I don't susbscribe to your religion- I think." Second one makes no difference and the third (obviously) is "Who." "I Don't Know" is the new guy in Spinal Tap, I think. Used to be with Conway Twitty...
Per the NYT: Terry Jones, who earned a spot in comedic lore as a member of the British troupe Monty Python and also had success as a director, screenwriter and author, has died. He was 77.
I'm generally in favor of covering people from TV and movies in the TV and movie forum and use this for people involved in, like politics or current events, but this is consequential to me... My autographed copy of this book just tripled in value!
Kobe Bryant dead in a copter crash. Damn. Kobe Bryant was killed Sunday in a helicopter crash, as first reported by TMZ and confirmed by @wojespn.He was 41. pic.twitter.com/jt4ccu2Rw4— ESPN (@espn) January 26, 2020
One day after LeBron James passed him on the league all-time scoring list and paid tribute to him in his after-game interview.
I'm shocked saddened and shook up by this.. as a Laker fan and a kid from California who saw Kobe drafted and play ball 20 years there I grew up watching him, idolizing him agonized in the defeats, thrilled and elated with the wins. He always represented what I loved hard work, ultra competitive, classy and very global and international in his life and thinking. Always strived to do better , I'm so sick right now. Sounds weird but it feels like somebody close to me has passed. So many of my formative years was shaped while I watched Kobe. May he RIP the GOAT.
Yeah, this one hit me harder than the sudden passing of any sports figure in my life. I got to see him courtside in Indianapolis his rookie season. The one game that sticks out to me though was seeing Game 4 of the NBA finals. With Shaq fouled out and the game going to OT, I really thought we (the Pacers) had the Lakers. Bryant carried you guys and in the course of those final few minutes he began the process of cementing his rep as a clutch big game performer. Not fun to watch as an opposing fan, but it was a huge game in the history of the league. You could feel the air leave the building as it happened. JMO, but if the Pacers take Game 4 (considering what they did in G5 and how competitive they were in G6) they probably win the title that year.
Yeah, my nephew idolized him. I always hated (in a sporting sense) him and the Lakers, but still I feel it, as if somebody I knew well passed away. It's amazing how much we get attached to the celebrities that we see all the time.
I also grew up in LA, but sounds like I was about am about a decade ahead of you - I grew up with Worthy, Magic, the Slam Dunk, and the Pick-n-roll. To me, Kobe was brilliant, but was could not measure up to that group off court. He had an asshole streak in him the way that I don't recall his predecessors having. And his sexual assault (I'm sure it happened) will always taint him in my eyes - it really is something I always think about when his name comes up. But he is one of the greatest players, no doubt about that. I think it has more to do with how we developed as individuals. I don't have the same reaction to his death as your nephew or as Walia Ibex. But I'm sure I'd have a much stronger reaction to the death of Magic or Kareem or Worthy or Cooper, because that was my team. The Kobe-Lakers was not my team, that was a different Lakers team.
