Roughly translating this article; a deal is done to send 21 year old Luis Alberto Caicedo to the New England Revolution pending a medical. The player reportedly has his luggage packed & MLS will make an announcement regarding this acquisition in the next couple days. #NERevs https://t.co/Dpz5MgHYaN— The REView (@RevsViews) March 5, 2018
Well, let's just hope Burns doesn't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, like he did the last time we "almost" signed a player. Remember the guy who had a deal all agreed to and was on his way to the airport and then Burns changed the terms of the contract from 2 years to 4?
Transfermrkt says he's got a $157K market value - https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-alberto-caicedo/profil/spieler/426609 If the Revs are paying $3M for him it's either a sign that they're deeply in love or that their reputation is so far gone they've got to overpay wildly to get anyone.
The fact he's 21 may place a premium on him, although that's late in the non -US development cycle. In SA/Europe he's closer to the finished product by then.
Been watching video on Caicedo for about 20 minutes. I can see what the Revs like... he's athletic, he's technical, he looks like a terrific ball-winner, he's got some vision, he's very quick to switch from defense to offense, and it looks like he's super aggressive. And by aggressive, I mean Joey Franchino kind of aggressive. Red card waiting to happen kind of aggressive. I saw one tackle where he went in from behind with two feet, studs up, and missed the ball by five yards. I couldn't believe it was called a yellow. The staff is going to have to coach that stuff out of him without sacrificing the good things he does on the field.
A few random thoughts from watching that: - Definitely an energetic player, which fits in with MLS stylistically. - I agree those lunging challenges could get him a lot of cards. - Has a left foot, but really seems to run around whenever he can. - That was a lot of 2+ touch, barely any one-touch. Calmness on the ball is great, but I didn't any evidence he can increase the team's speed of play.
According to Soccerway, he got three reds and 11 yellows in 31 appearances during 2017. https://us.soccerway.com/players/luis-alberto-caicedo-mosquera/406147/
So how many guys do we have on the roster now? The fact that 2 starting central defenders are going to be out, it's sure is a good thing that we signed all that extra depth to fill out the roster this off-season, right?
https://www.mlssoccer.com/rosters/2018/new-england-revolution You are allowed to have 2 (and no more than 2) senior roster spots open. It doesn't mean much. If they sign someone else and put them on the senior roster, they will just move someone (like Brian Wright) down, and there will still be 2 slots open.
By my calculations, Brian Wright, Femi Hollinger-Janzen and Cody Cropper all could be moved off the senior roster if needed, so they really have 5 senior roster spots open.
Watching the spectacular performance from Luis Robles last night, I was reminded about the discussion we had here a few years ago when the Revs didn't even try and entry the lottery and as usual, the defenders here said basically he wasn't that good anyway. In the meantime, we have a rotating group of keepers and still no consistent #1.
