Closer and closer... http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2015/09/21/mls-expansion-don-garber-minnesota-atlanta-united
yup, really awesome of St Paul to step up and prevent what would have been an unavoidable cluster that would have delayed a minnesota team for foreseeable future. Ive read up on it as much as an expansion guru can, and it looks solid on paper an I have no doubt itll pull crowds. really good consolation prize there that will assure MLS in minnesota.
There is no doubt in my mind that St Paul - especially the midway site - will fail to draw crowds. The Twin Cities are very much a binary system; it's just that Minneapolis is the more prominent of the two. But it's not like the Wild struggle because they are in St Paul rather than Minneapolis.* The Swarm had respectable numbers there as well; their departure reflects the league's issues more than the market's. *Yes I realize that comparing hockey in Minnesota to literally any other sport is not a strong argument.
Yeah, typo. Definitely did not need to see that ugliness on a Monday morning. I think I threw up a little...

Excellent news! If that liquor store is still at that corner on Snelling, they are about to rake it in!
totally awesome this happened for you guys, good versatility and vision by St Paul to take advantage of the Minneapolis fumble. It looks good all around to me, and im glad that it all came together, will be fun to pay attention to.
Oh happy day!So the stadium will be built on the vacant lot behind the midway shopping center,is the shipping center going to be torn down?If not I hope the design has a UK feel to it.I love how many of the stadiums in the UK are fit into tight spaces with surrounding buildings steps away.
The video from yesterday's press conference has been posted to MUFC's Facebook page - all 33 minutes of it... https://www.facebook.com/mnunitedfc?fref=ts Also here: A number of interesting tidbits from Dr. McGuire if you pay close attention, among which are: * Stadium will be expandable * Others in the ownership group that "You have perhaps not heard from yet..."
IMHO 20000 capacity for a stadium in 2018 is not enough. We are averaging 21.5K now, they should plan to build a 25-27K stadium from the get go - with option to expand - as opposed to 20K.
I'm sure the stadium will be built with expansion capability. All the stadiums that are being built now, starting with San Jose's, will be built with expansion in mind. Even Toronto's stadium built before the Quakes are expandable, as they have already done so.
I am guessing. Hubbard Broadcasting. They televise all United games and also own real estate in St. Paul by the stadium. If I remember correctly the family is originally from St. Paul.

Wasn't sure where to put this. 2016 last year in NASL. 2017 MLS coming in with Atlanta would be good. One thing in your favor, is you already have a team up and running, just not to modify for MLS the way that Orlando, Portland , Montreal have done before. If so, can Target Field field be used for the one year and if so, will a soccer field actually fit? Has Target field ever hosted anything other than baseball? To be, even a modify baseball field with grass is better than any football field with plastic.
