Yeah, attendance has been crappy from the start. Bad weather, losing at home 3 times when that was the total all of last season, and the new car smell is gone. Hopefully it will pick up with the warmer weather.

Reno beat the Timbers U23s 7-3, setting up a 3rd round match vs. Sacramento in Reno next week. Danny Musovski scored two goals, so he's cup-tied. Jerry van Ewijk with the hat trick.

Partida, Musovski, Marie and Marcinkowski started last night. Musovski was substituted out at the half. Nothing special stood out about Partida's just solid again. JT looked pretty good in goal. Defense failed him again on the goal allowed. Thiaw came in late and looked to be somewhat dangerous. His handle wasn't great but he did a decent job of putting pressure on the keeper. Marie had some good moments but nothing came of them.

Keep developing that player pipeline

That may not be a huge deal but still great news in that it's another first.
19 years old, glad to see we're moving guys to our USL team at that age instead of after they're done with college.

Not positive but Valencia may get into the game Wednesday. Russell said there could be some changes for the game.

Marcinkowski, Marie, Partida, Qwiberg, Fernandes and Thiaw started.

Mo scored a goal and had an assist and was awarded the USL player of the game. His handle needs work but he plays with a lot of heart and played 66 min.
Qwiberg played well at back and played 79 min.
JT was solid but was caught on a free kick for the only goal conceded by 1868. Partida and Marie put in solid shifts.
Mfeka played the full game and was solid also. I believe this is the first full game he has played this season.
Musovski was in the 18 but did not play.
Valencia was not in the 18. He did not make the 18 Wednesday either.
Luis Felipe played 75 min and had a rough first half. Second half was better but subpar for him still.

Hitting the Right Notes, Reno Rolls On
EIGHT-GAME UNDEFEATED STREAK IS MIRRORING DRIVE UP STANDINGS IN 2017 SEASON

Reno’s second season is starting to mirror its first, with the club’s winless start now being followed by an extended undefeated streak. Last season 1868 FC went on a run that saw the side put together a record of 8-1-4 between the start of May and the end of July. This season, the side hasn’t been quite as explosive offensively in posting a 4-0-4 record in its last eight outings but the chemistry in the attacking third that took time to develop early in the season was in full evidence on Saturday as 1868 FC notched seven shots on goal overall, the most San Antonio had conceded in a game this season.

Mo Thiaw led the way on Saturday night with the game-winning goal and an assist that gave the Senegalese striker two goals and two assists in his past three games, while Jerry van Ewijk scored in his second consecutive league outing as the interplay between those two and Thiaw’s fellow San Jose Earthquakes loanee Paul Marie shone through.

“I think at the beginning of the season, we were trying to get to know one another as a team,” said Van Ewijk, who recorded five key passes in Saturday’s contest in addition to his goal. “But it feels good right now. I am feeling well about my [game] at the moment.”

It caught my attention when Reno signed Jerry van Ewijk, if he performs well I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the Quakes roster in 2019...

He is rounding into form after having a long off season. He got married late in the off season and starting training late.

Thiaw, Marie, Partida and Marcinkowski all started. Mo subbed out at 61, Marie subbed out at 64. Partida was his usual self in the middle, Mo didn't have as good of game as the last as his handle was off and he was slow in his thought process. Marie seemed to be off a little also. JT was left exposed by a bad defensive rotation on the goal.

Musovski and Calvillo were unused subs.

Mfeka scored the game winner and had all around very good game. He was name man of the match by USL. He has scored 5 goals against OKC in his 3 games against them.

    Unbeaten streak is now 13.

JT is looking more and more confident in goal. Qwiberg and Calvillo looked pretty good Saturday.

Going for 14 Tuesday against our nemesis RSL Monarchs. We have not gotten a point from them in 3 games. Hoping for 3 tomorrow.

Can we just swap teams/coaches for the remainder of the season?

I thought I'd check the USL site to see how they did, and was greeted with this on the front page:

    https://www.uslsoccer.com/reno1868fc-realmonarchsslc-971489

3-0, Quakes involved in all three goals. Felipe scored the first, TT had a nice pass to set up the second, and Marie put in the cross for the third
Tommy did whiff a shot on goal though :(

So Reno have a 14 game unbeaten streak and are up to third in the USL western conference, while the Quakes have an 8 game winless streak and the worst PPG in MLS.....

It was a very energetic match. Tommy and Chris Wehan looked a little rusty whiffing on a couple of passes and shots each. None the less they were both instrumental in the pace of play. Luis Felipe seems to have cemented a starting position again and Marie is fighting for a back position and is in the 18 most of the time. JT had an easy night as the defense did a good job of keeping the Monarchs at bay. Musovsky has seen less time the last few weeks as he and Brian Brown have been hot and cold in their play and usually substituting in for the other at the half. Mfeka has secured a starting spot when healthy and has been influential in most matches. We have 2 road games against S2 and Los Dos that should be good chances for wins as both teams' form has been lacking.

I have a hard time comparing USL and MLS. The two levels look light years apart from each other in skills, speed and tactics. Looking at the plays and defenses in the USL , they all seem a lot slower than the way the game is played at an MLS game. The USL was just a third tier outfit last year and all of a sudden an entire league as opposed to 1-3 teams have been promoted.

I don't know how you can make an entire league skip a level in 6 months time with much improvement in quality. Even if the level of play has improved somewhat, Reno may gain a lot by getting the Quakes players but I don't see much of an advantage if Reno's players get moved up to the Quakes.

Remembering Seth Casiple from his Cal Bears days, at 24 years of age, he looks much slower with less hair than he did in college....

Pleased and proud of Ian and 1868, disgusted by the Quakes.

Don’t know what to say at this point. We need new coaches, that much is for sure. We need some new players too, and to ditch some guys who just suck.

We need the vision thing, and so far, all I see from the new regime is random lurching from one match to the next.

    Very disappointed.

    Go Quakes!!
    Fire Stahre!!

Looks like he should have stepped into that shot with his left foot instead of turning a weird angle shot with his right. He looked pretty upset about it.

Sublime pass to set up the 2nd goal though.

    Understand your malaise.
JT got left out to dry on the goal yet again, otherwise he had a relatively easy game as S2 has a terrible attack. Wehan was his usual facilitator self. Luis Felipe was active and solid. Marie was solid had a couple of good crosses. Qwiberg looked off and was taken out at 55. Musovsky came in at 79 and helped kill off the match. Thiaw was in the 18 but not used.

He has looked good in his previous stints. He seemed to be ball watching and counting on his speed to bail him out. He got burned by their winger every time.
