So, @matbluvenger, was that you on the Beeman's Republic podcast? Anyway, after spending the day in Reno, I just have to one thing say ...
You're not wrong. It's freaking out of control. Construction from Mt Rose to the North Valleys. Which podcast do you speak of? I was interviewed by a SRFC independent reporter.
Driving around Reno today was insane. This podcast : http://indomitablecitysoccer.com/20...-match-rescheduled-and-usl-expansion-to-reno/
Yessir that's me! Didn't get a chance to listen to it to hear how dumb I sound but made a lucky jump and heard him say my name. Oh no I've been outed!
They're taking name suggestions here ... http://www.uslreno2017.com/ I submitted Reno 1868 and Locomotive Reno. Didn't submit Reno Divorcees ...
Welp, now there's over 900. Holy crap. Though, to be fair, I'm sure a good chunk of them are "Reno 911! lulz" or "Reno Field Fairies"
I don't fursuit. And I also don't really travel for cons anymore. Maybe if BLFC aligns with a Reno match. I was praying Orlando City would play in Pittsburgh during Anthrocon, especially once Highmark opened. But alas, it was not to be.
Got my first bit of spam promotional material from FC Reno 2017! I really hope long term a proper stadium can be built. Because the sightlines on that soccer mock-up look so, so bad.
Yeah but when I was in the stadium for the announcement I didn't care... it's soccer Also there are over 1800 entries for the Name the Team contest!
How can it be bad? Everyone says that watching soccer in a baseball stadium is the best. Right NYCFC fans?
The name the team contest entries end this week I believe. And then voting starts. IIRC we should have a name by the end of the month. Popular entries have been bringing back old names ("Rattlers"), play off the Aces ("Blackjacks") or using traditional soccer nomenclature not common in NA ("Reno 1868"). The latter seems to only be catching on with big fans of soccer, though. As far as colors... no clue. I assume they're waiting for a team name. But a good move would be Nevada blue (like on the flag) or navy blue like the university. And accents of gold or silver.
I've never been to Reno, and I have no clue what fits their culture. But Reno Locomotive or Locomotive Reno sounds cool. As to colors, I suggest pink / black, but it's what I suggest for every startup soccer team lately.
If you want to go with an Aces theme, then Reno Jacks or Reno Hearts wouldn't be bad. But not Blackjacks. I like Reno Jacks, actually. I could live with that. (Build a stadium, add an NWSL team, and call them the Reno Hearts!) But really I'd prefer something along the lines of 1868. But I'm in that final category you mention.
I like the NWSL add on. And even if that's not in the "cards" for a while (yeah, that was bad) ... there could be an all Women's supporters group for the Jacks that are the "Hearts of Reno" or "Diamonds of Reno" or something like that ... the playing card options would lend to some decent crests (shape of a diamond or spade or something?) and would make for some easy marketing IMO.
