I think the Houston situation had something to do with not cup-tieing the RGV players who could otherwise play in some of Houston's early games
A polite, professional letter signed by everyone in the BBB could go a long way. The core fans need to make the case to the FO that the USOC is extremely important to them.
I could also see this as an opportunity for the 'Quakes to carry a small roster and "stash" reserves in Reno to save money. But maybe it doesn't work that way. But that could be good for Reno until there is a rash of injuries and national team call-ups in SJ.
That's pretty much what I expect. I think this will be closer to the Colorado-Charlotte affiliation than RGV, where they have some say-so in coaching selection and other technical areas as well as having a few players sort of "assigned" to Reno, their salaries paid by San Jose (though not on the MLS roster), while the rest of the team is Reno's. San Jose will likely build/assist with building on/have final approval on Reno's coaching staff, though, so how much the rest of the roster is built with players looking to win versus looking to develop is difficult to project at the moment.
Yeah they got shafted. This is an excellent idea. Our FO has listened to the fans during the entire process, I wouldn't think they would stop now, especially if we came at them with a professional proposal. Very true. However, president Edelstein has stated repeatedly that they will field a competitive squad. Reno has been a bit fair-weather so a strong team will be important. But then again the fickleness has been observed with "traditional" American sports. Soccer just might be a resounding hit considering Reno's changing demographic and changing focus.
SJ President and GM are in Reno today. Earlier was the official announcement, with a fan meet and greet in about an hour. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=949236468536826&id=735587349901740
Regarding USOC eligibility: "We think it's important (for Reno 1868) to play and get that experience (in the US Open Cup)" - GM John Doyle Happy dance!
Local news KOLO 8 conducted an interview with some of Battle Born Brigade's founding members! The member requests to join the facebook group have been flooding in! http://www.kolotv.com/content/sports/Reno-1868-FC-fans-start-Battle-Born-Brigade-club-388205802.html
Andy Smith, former president of Atlanta Silverbacks and involved with FCD, DCU, and Colorado, has been appointed as the first GM for Reno 1868. Apparently this guy was instrumental in raising FCD ticket sales so that's a decent notch on his resume. http://reno1868fc.com/news/?article_id=42
Every match sold out would be pretty huge. That would ensure viability and allow for the club to have some spending cash to really push things forward. This is all being done on somewhat of a budget, so allowing them some freedom would be amazing.
USMNT legend Eric Wynalda will be hosting a youth clinic with 1868 on 9/17. He will also be at a meet & greet and watch party that evening! I'm very excited to meet him. Might even be worth it for Sacramento fans to come check out. http://reno1868fc.com/news/?article_id=46
Sadly, no. But in good news: tryouts are completely full so they are planning on holding another tryout session. Lots of people have been asking about tryouts since the team's founding (wow, almost a year ago now). I would be ecstatic if a local boy made it big! Also worth noting: - 3000+ season tickets have been sold (or on payment plans) - Roughly 120 season tickets have been sold for the supporters section. Great news, considering our goal for the first game is 220. That's half of section 102. We're trying to set reasonable goals for the beginning but still, 440 is very feasible. Of course the section will be it's own general admission so we definitely expect plenty of single ticket walk-ups.
Those are good numbers for this early. Good sign. I haven't heard or seen much advertising. Then again I don't listen to radio that much and don't watch TV.
There really hasn't been much. It's been social media and street-team/word-of-mouth. They've had several spots on radio shows and on the news. I think there will be a marketing campaign firing up soon. Probably waiting on a manager and signings.
Founding Member number has surpassed 1000. There are 1868 FM tickets available. The program is essentially an early-bird season ticket that comes with extra benefits. I'm actually quite happy with the number, especially considering the season is still five months away and season tickets will likely go faster as the season gets closer. http://reno1868fc.com/news/?article_id=50
That is great to see the response from the community. It would seem we are under served more than people thought.
Agreed, there has been a lot of growth in the area and with it a lot of diversity. This will be just another addition to that vibrant diversity and hopefully a catalyst for more.
We in the Battle Born Brigade have finished designing our first scarf! I'm really happy with how the design came out. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1781392555/battle-born-brigade-scarves
