I thought it'd be good to have a go-to, one-stop-shop, thread about the regional or local amateur/adult leagues. Not just city leagues, but a catch-all for those that are USASA or USOC qualifying potential.
To start, the Great Lakes Premier League just "rebranded" today to the Premier League of America. Teams are in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois (Chicago). Supposedly more teams to be announced soon. Pretty lackluster name in a rebrand.
The President of the EPLWA (Evergreen Premier League of Washington) is interviewed here this week: http://americanpyramid.weebly.com/b...ter-ostrovsky-of-the-evergreen-premier-league www.EPLWA.com
podcast of the PLA (last ten minutes, starting about 23:40) intro: http://www.toledounited.com/peter-schinkai-looks-at-the-plas-re-brand-with-the-outer-drive/ direct podcast: https://soundcloud.com/the-outer-dr...toledouniteds-peter-schinkai-one-weird-layout claiming 12 teams for the season. Would have two divisions; play h+h within your div; then a postseason tournament of probably four teams. Also said that the teams not in the championship playoffs could play a consolation bracket, to get some cross-over games. Looking at an automatic bid to the L. H. U. S. Open Cup for their champion. from the Toledo club: http://www.toledounited.com/from-the-presidents-desk-exciting-times-in-the-pla/ ... of course, the trick is to have that many teams finish the season.
Champions Soccer League USA (Florida regional league) added two teams, one in Gainesville and one in Lakeland, FL. Apparently this is the first announcement of a "massive expansion" for the CSL USA. This league was founded by members of the Tampa Marauders which played in the NPSL for a season before founding this league with several other amateur teams in the Tampa metro area. The league is supposed to have a Championship and Pro league season with 1st and 2nd division pro-rel in the Championship league. The Pro league was supposed to start this past August but it did not start and the league went dark for several months after the conclusion of the Championship season until November when they started posting minor announcements to Facebook. http://www.thecslusa.com/news_article/show/589935?referrer_id=1700777
To get a running/updated list together of these regional leagues, might as well start: Premier League of America -- Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin Evergreen Premier League -- Washington Champions Soccer League USA -- Florida United Premier Soccer League -- Arizona, California, Nevada Texas Premier Soccer League -- Texas Louisiana Premier League -- Louisiana Cosmopolitan Soccer League -- New York American Soccer League -- Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland American Soccer League 2 -- midwest and southeast expansion? National Premier Soccer League -- nationwide Premier Development League -- nationwide Any other "major" regional leagues that need to be added?
CSLUSA is adding teams in Daytona and St. Augustine Florida. St. Augustine Saints SC and Daytona will both be in the Division 2 of the Championship League. http://www.thecslusa.com/news_article/show/590673?referrer_id= In other news, the Gainesville team will be called the "Gators", which is really rather un-inventive (and possibly a conflict of names) for a team in Gainesville given that the University of Florida in Gainesville is also the Gators - unless it is affiliated with the university in some way (which is really unlikely).
I doubt this scenario, but...maybe the UF men's club team is going to play in the league? At one time the UF club team was going through (or trying) USOC qualifying in the recent past.
It will be interesting to see the CSLUSA develops this season in terms of teams, fields used, and scheduling. Last season (the first) all of the teams were in the Tampa Bay metro area. St. Augustine is only a 3 hour drive from Tampa, so that is not a big deal, but if they add teams in Miami or really anywhere in South Florida the dynamic will change somewhat. Also, last season the stadium/fields were often shared by teams.
San Francisco has a very old league comprised of dozens of teams in several divisions with a promotion/relegation system. http://www.sfsfl.com/ It may be the oldest, continually run league in the country. It's been running since 1902 and teams from the league have won the US Open Cup 4 times. I played in the league for one season.
Oregon has a premier league of some sort. Although it's not really statewide, it's just the best teams in the Portland Metro area and a team from Eugune. Spartans joined the NPSL as they were dominating the Oregon premier league or whatever its called. They still compete in that league and continue to dominate despite it being their "reserve team" (top players still play in the league outside of the NPSL season). I would like the Oregon league to include more teams from outside the Portland to Eugune area and maybe have some interstate games with the Evergreen Premier League but i cant see it happening anytime soon.
started 1902 thats great. one of our cities clubs made the jump to NPSL this year, starting in 2016 http://rdsl.org/news.cfm?story=264
Just in, apparently the Minnesota United Reserves team is changing to the PLA: http://www.pla-soccer.com/minnesota-united-moves-from-npsl-to-pla/
Premier League of America set for the season at 11 teams, in two divisions. http://www.pla-soccer.com/pla-announces-divisions-for-2016-season/ West: Croatian Eagles, Madison 56ers, Milwaukee Bavarians, Minnesota United FC Reserves, SSC Minneapolis City (announced today) East: Aurora Borealis SC, Carpathia FC, Oakland County FC, Ole SC, RWB Adria, Toledo United As previously described on a podcast, the top two teams in each division goes to their championship tournament, and the rest go to a consolation tournament.
Florida, minus the panhandle, could easily have a 20 team top amateur league. I think I counted 30+ teams who participate in either the NPSL, PDL, APSL and CSL USA.
Very true, it is a big state. The Cape Coral Hurricanes say on their website that they will play in the CSL for the 2016 season. No confirmation on the CSL website. http://www.capehurricanes.com/Schedule.html
The Cricket League in Philadelphia used to hold that distinction - but they sadly folded 4 or 5 years ago.
The United League in Philly: http://uslofpa.leagueapps.com Bay State Soccer League in Beantown: www.bssl.com Both are part of usasa's Elite Leagues.
Premier League of America schedule, Championship July 30-31 in Maumee, OH: http://www.pla-soccer.com/pla-releases-2016-schedule/
Not sure if the PLA will play their entire "championship" (top four) and "consolation" (bottom seven) brackets all at the Lucas County Recreation Center of Maumee, OH, but you would think they would want at least two fields for that. The site plan shows one main field (Q on the map) and one smaller field (R), or maybe squeeze a pitch onto one of the ball fields or Ned Skelton Stadium (H). http://co.lucas.oh.us/DocumentCenter/Home/View/992 Also, there doesn't seem to be a good indoor possibility on site (in case of weather). The Rec Hall I (K) is listed as 119.6-by-189.6 feet (wall to wall) or 39.9-by-63.2 yard. (Rec Hall II is larger but has columns.) http://co.lucas.oh.us/DocumentCenter/Home/View/986
