We're not going into this return leg under ideal circumstances by any means. Paulo Autuori is a better manager than Ney Franco was, but he's going to have his work cut out for him for the rest of the year given the turmoil the team has faced. We're coming off a string of losses in the Brazilian premiership, and a win tonight would be a great win to initiate a turnaround. Ironically, this win would be more symbolic than an actual promise of better football in the next few weeks, even if the team plays well against Corinthians, which has shown signs of recovery following its elimination from the Libertadores and is still one of Brazil's better teams. If SPFC wins the Recopa, it will be our 13th international cup and 3rd Recopa - not to mention some bragging rights against a crosstown rival. But this title has far less value than the Libertadores or even the Sul-Americana (let me not even mention the Suruga Bank Cup, which SPFC will also compete for in August). I want the Recopa - but I also want improvement and a berth in the 2014 Libertadores. I hope both happen tonight.
