There is a pretty strong passive acceptance of drive-by sexism on P&CE. There is also an aggression in posting style which we males have that are which turn off women from posting/joining our discussion. The latter is anecdotal, of course.
It’s the same with tango. Plenty of female singers, but the instruments are mostly played by males. Maybe it has to do with the attitudes of the era when the music originated, and the culture around it never evolved.
If we're talking female musicians, I present Cindy Blackman and Shelia E. Cindy is the drummer for Lenny Kravitz and Carlos Santana. I saw her play for Kravitz when he was opening for Aerosmith years ago. She had a giant afro and was just killing it on the drums. She meant business and I'd have been more than happy to watch her play drums and nothing more. She was incredible. Case in point below. Shelia E goes without saying as her and her family are excellent. There's an incredible drum session with her father and Tito Puente that you can get sucked into. And shout out to Joni Mitchell. Quite a good guitar player in her own right.

There are political discussion here and there in other forums, most are civil. Most posters check it out, and are quickly turned off by this place. Something along the lines of an extreme "cesspool" is how I think I remember it being described to other posters, which is unfortunate.
Unfortunate, yes. Also unavoidable when both sides think the other side isn’t just wrong but evil. And both sides just know they are right.
Never been there. Highly recommend it? If it has as much entertainment value as this forum it sounds promising.
Sorry I didn't see this before, don't know how I missed it. I may not have said it correctly earlier. WYWY is my favorite Beatles song, but I think Yesterday and And I Love Her are their best two, period. I'm just not of the mindset that they all needed to be in on the recording, but I can see where you're coming from.
May be. There was a time when even orchestras were segregated by gender. And it's not like the other forms of art by females gets any serious attention. But why do they sing? Seems to me the idea of liberation would involve deliberately choosing an instrument and becoming as proficient at playing it as possible (which would see them surpass most of the males they'd encounter). But they still seem to choose a role that's more closely associated with the subjective, and the "entertainment"/feely side of art.
Speaking of the Beach Boys, I was in San Francisco at the DreamForce conference a few years ago and someone was introducing a product called "Wave" and got the Beach Boys to sing a couple of songs. I overheard some younger woman in front of me wondering who those old guys were and why were they singing. The guy she was with told her they were the Beach Boys, and they were a Very Big Deal in their day. "The Beach Boys? I though it was supposed to be the Beastie Boys!" No, those guys couldn't make it. They were too busy in Washington, lobbying to amend the Bill of Rights to add our "Right to Party."

I'm not sure she needs to. I haven't seen the video of the initial confrontation. But IMO she does need to mention and distance herself from all her previous counterparts while she proclaims her innocence. It could be that she actually thought this was someone who didn't belong there, but there's no reason to believe her.
Stephen Miller is a racist....In other news, sky is blue and snow is white. “In the run-up to the 2016 election, White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller promoted white nationalist literature, pushed racist immigration stories and obsessed over the loss of Confederate symbols after Dylann Roof’s murderous rampage,” according to leaked emails reviewed by Hatewatch. “The emails, which Miller sent to the conservative website Breitbart News in 2015 and 2016, showcase the extremist, anti-immigrant ideology that undergirds the policies he has helped create as an architect of Donald Trump’s presidency.”
