I hope the brother has a better attitude. Plock lose patience with Ekwueme Tuesday, 29 July 2003 Emmanuel Ekwueme has been suspended by Wisla Plock for a breach of club discipline. Club accusations The 24-year-old Nigerian international has been suspended for three months and fined €4,000 after turning up late for pre-season training and taking part in a friendly game for Nigeria against the club's wishes. Plock hit back "Ekwueme will not play in our team, including UEFA Cup matches, as we want to fine him for bad behaviour and being late back from Nigeria last week," said Plock president Krzysztof Dmoszynski. "He rejected official documents we sent to him. Last week he was informed that we were against his trip to London to play in a friendly match for Nigeria against Venezuela, as it was not an official FIFA date." 'We have had enough' The club president admitted that he may now be looking to offload the player, who turned up three weeks late for Plock's pre-season training camp. "I don't think he's a bad player," said Dmoszynski. "He's not. But we have had enough of his behaviour."
Wisla Krakow lost to Arka Gdynia in the Polish Cup! And now Pater and Stolarczyk are injured and may not play in the return CL leg against Omonia. Not much good news for the Krakow club recently...
My prediction: Wisla 2 - 0 Omonia Scoring goals won't be so easy on the road, but Wisla still is far above Omonia. The defence will clamp down after those embarrasing last 15 minutes in Krakow, and I think they'll keep a clean sheet.
I realy don't care about the result. Just as long as they go to the next round. But I would love to see some new young players get a chance to impress.
Wow! They're really getting hammered right now. If they advance, it'll be by the skin of their teeth!
Wisla end Omonia challenge (from Uefa) Ten-man Wisla Kraków won through to the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League but were made to work all the way by Cypriot side Omonia AC despite their three-goal deficit going into the second leg. Early goal The Polish champions were not daunted by the humid conditions and on six minutes increased their grip on the tie when Maciej Zurawski collected a loose ball and went on a solo run before stylishly chipping in the opener. Home side have hope Omonia's response was quick, and within ten minutes German midfield player Marco Haber fed Rainer Rauffmann, whose clever lob beat visiting custodian Adam Piekutowski. Things became even trickier for Wisla on 25 minutes when defender Maciej Stolarczyk was sent off after receiving a second yellow card. Chances for Omonia Omonia spent the rest of the half on the attack but neither Jozef Kozlej or substitute Efstathios Aloneftis were able to convert their chances. At the other end Wisla looked dangerous on the counterattack, Cristino Pereira De Souza in particular worrying the home side. Charalambous free-kick The islanders began the second half well, and took the lead on the night six minutes in. Elias Charalambous was the scorer with a spectacular curling free-kick into the top right-hand corner. Omonia sensed an unlikely comeback in the tie, but could not make it 3-1. Kozlej's second Wisla then virtually ensured their passage from a rare attack, as in the 71st minute Zurawski scored his second of the night with a low shot. That goal seemed to deflate Omonia, though urged on by 12,098 fans they kept pushing until the end. 'Very happy' "I am very happy with my team's performances in the first and second games," said Wisla coach Henryk Kasperczak. Asked if he feared a comeback when Omonia were 2-1 up and on the attack, Kasperczak said: "The only thing I fear in this life is my wife." His team now meet RSC Anderlecht. Experience gained Omonia coach Toni Sayeyski added: "The game was more or less finished after the first game in Poland. These kind of games should be looked at as gaining experience for the Cypriot sides.”
