Former San Jose City Council member and city Vice-Mayor Iola Williams has passed away.
It’s sad news to me, she saved my life when I was 17.

Back from the early 70’s our families were neighbors in the Stonegate neighborhood. We lived across from them.
She was a great person, mother, innovator (1st African American ever elected to the city council) and served the city for 2 terms as Vice Mayor with Janet Gray Hayes. There’s a Senior Community Center named after her on Lucretia Ave. and she was my guardian angel.
