No issue getting in either. Frustrating yes, but boring? So you left before the third goal? The goal that meant we would play El Salvador instead of Costa Rica. Sorry you missed it.
Heck, we probably have a couple board members who were too young to go to that game or too young to remember it.
That lantern article is very generous with its description of the Sanneh PK attempt. 'take his shot hestitantly'... It was almost like he forgot he was supposed to be taking a PK halfway through the activity. 'shooting it low, along the ground'... More like lazily rolled a pass towards the goal. Reis watched Sanneh take his 'shot', walked to the other end of the goal, picked up his sports bottle, took a drink, set the bottle back down, sauntered back over to the other end of the goal and then waited to scoop up the rolling ball. I might be exaggerating. But not by much...
^^^ This is accurate except it fails to note the part where Sanneh used his purse to strike the ball.
I thought Kelyn Rowe was one of the bright spots on Saturday. Dissapointed to see him heading home. Didn't see much of anything from Arriola in either of the two games I watched. Thought Bedoya had a great game, and I haven't been a big fan of his in the past. Though I do think he brings versatility.
Liked what I saw from Rowe but disagree on Arriola. Arriola is fast, works on defense, crosses well and is willing to take players on. He's hungry, 21 and playing regularly in a league better than MLS. He has his shortcomings but he hasn't hit his ceiling IMO. Someone has to explain the McCarty love affair. I see a slow player who takes too long to pass the ball, backs away from tackles, leaves too much space between himself and the defense and is very limited in his off the ball movement. He seems like a solid MLSer but will never be anything above that.
I guess I don't really dissagree with any of your specifics on Arriola. I was mostly comparing Rowe to him. I thought Rowe did more to deserve to stay with the team. I realize they play opposite sides, though, so it's not necessarily a choice between the two.
I agree with this. I really liked what Rowe brought to the table and wish we could see more against better competition. Arena seems sold on Nagbe although I'm not a Nagbe fan.
What did we learn? Lichaj has a better touch and more composure in the box than Altidore. Nagbe's only move is after the ball goes out of bounds and both teams have stopped playing.
I try not to be too hard on refs, it's a tough job. But that guy (and probably that whole team) should never be hired to referee another professional match in his life.
And it's the only thing I've seen from him. He dribbles well then sends a poor pass at the wrong time. He is a defensive non entity, rarely shoots and moves poorly off the ball. I don't get all the hype.
