Real Esteli already won the Apertura 2007.

The Clausura 2008 is coming into its 15th round. The only teams that are already qualified for the semfinals are Deportivo Walter Ferreti and Diriangen FC. Deportivo Ocotal is just about in. The fourth spot is becoming a race between Real Esteli, America, and Masatape.

Did tomwilhelm put a gun to your head:confused::D

Real Esteli just drew with arch-rivals Diriangen this weekend and are the frontrunners/favorites to take the spot.

Three places remain for CONCACAF Champions League™

5/27/2008 - Only three qualification places remain, one each from Canada, El Salvador and Nicaragua in order to complete the field of 24-teams that will compete in the inaugural 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League™ this coming August.

The Impact de Montreal, Toronto FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC will play a home-and-away round-robin tournament called Nutrilite Canadian Championship from 27 May – 22 July. The winner of the Canadian Championship will advance to the CONCACAF Champions League™ as CAN1.

El Salvador’s CD F.A.S. will face already qualified CD Luis Angel Firpo (2007 Apertura Champion) in the Liga Mayor 2008 Clausura Final on 1 June in San Salvador. If CD F.A.S. win, they qualify to the CONCACAF Champions League™ and once again meet CD Luis Angel Firpo in a two-game playoff to determine SLV1 and SLV2. If Luis Angel Firpo claim the Clausura Final, they automatically take SLV1 spot and CD Isidro Metapán earn the SLV2 spot after finishing with the highest points in the 2008 Clausura standings with 32 Points.

Real Esteli FC, who won Nicaragua’s 2007 Campeonato Nacional de Apertura, are in fourth place (27 Points) in the 2008 Clausura eight points behind the leader Deportivo Ocotal with 35, while Deportivo Walter Ferreti and Diriangen FC tied for second-place, with 33 Points . All four teams have secured places in the semifinals after 16 match dates. The winner of the Clausura will meet Real Esteli FC in a two-game playoff to determine NCA1 spot. If Real Esteli win the Clausura title, then they automatically earn NCA1 place.

The three qualified clubs will join the list of confirmed teams in the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League™: Belize – Hankook Verdes; Costa Rica – Deportivo Saprissa, LD Alajuelense; El Salvador – CD Luis Angel Firpo; Guatemala – CSD Municipal, Deportivo Jalapa; Honduras – CD Olimpia, CD Marathon; Mexico – Atlante FC, CD SC Cruz Azul, Pumas UNAM, Club Santos Laguna; Panama – San Francisco FC, Tauro FC; USA – Houston Dynamo, D.C. United, New England Revolution, Chivas USA; and Caribbean: Harbour View FC of Jamaica, Joe Public FC of Trinidad & Tobago, Puerto Rico Islanders.

Tonight during the Montreal Impact vs Toronto FC broadcast they talked about the preliminary round draw. They showed a graphic that listed Canada's entry as entering into Pool A of the draw along with the 2 USA, and 2 Mexico teams (I missed who the other three teams would be).

I think its common sense to put the second Costa Rican team in Pool A (the better pool) for the qualifying round. The winners of Belize and Nicaragua, the second teams from Panama and El Salvador, and CFU 2 and 3 should go into Pool B in my opinion. That leaves the second teams from Honduras and Guatemala, the top team from Panama, and the top CFU team as what I would call the borderline teams, with two of them going into Pool A and two going into Pool B.

I taped the replay of the game, and this is how the draw for the preliminary round will takeplace.

    Pot A: Mex3, Mex4, USA3, USA4, Can1, CRC2, HON2, Panama1.
    Pot B: El Salv2, Gua2, Pan2, Belize, Nicaragua, CFU1, CFU2, CFU3

So, if all the Pot A teams win the prelimary round home and away series, and assuming that they don't put teams from the same country in the same group the group stage would be something like this.

Group 1: Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Panama
Group 2: Mexico, USA, El Salvador, Honduras
Group 3: Mexico, USA, Gutamala, Costa Rica
Group 4: Mexico, USA, Honduras, Canada

And the draw for the prelim round draw and group stage is on June 11!

Canada#1 as pot A? Con-CACA can't get any more obvious then this and I will be willing to bet the MLS teams as well as the Canadian one will be getting the Caribbean teams through the "lottery".

Sorry, its on VHS and I don't have the equipment to do that.

I really wish that they would broadcast the draw just like UEFA does for their Champions League, even if they only broadcast it online.

I am pretty sure that at the very least 3 of them will make it to the quaterfinals if not all. They have a few months to improve.

cruz azul and santos are in good form right now, and pumas is a big club. they where near the bottom of the league i believe when they reached the final of sudamericana so they could still do well despite how they do in the league. atlante just plain sucks and it wouldn't suprise me if they do bad in the CCL

Do you remember at what point in the broadcast they made the mention? I have this on DVD and could make a screen cap or youtube cap available.
