News buried in this article: http://www.mercurynews.com/college-sports/ci_19822710 Doubleheader with Mexico U-23 vs. Senegal U-23. Apparently a rescheduling of the 3/18 game.
Wow, surprised this hasn't been highlighted anywhere yet, should be a great game and great for exposure up in San Francisco and the northern BA. Indeed, they have this up on the schedule page: http://www.sjearthquakes.com/schedule Great venue, should be a great place to play! Hopefully the weather is nice... Imagine if we ink up one of those Japanese players? Should be a nice draw if the word gets out.. ::cough:: advertising! ::cough:: Nice move by the FO to schedule this one. Going to be cutting it close depending on when my newborn arrives.. The wife might not be into taking a 1-week old to a game, even though she loves the Quakes, lol..
Great news! St Patrick's Day as well so the parade and other festivities around town make for a long day. A good time to host a soccer game before the baseball team takes over. Mostly, get the fans in San Francisco to see the Quakes.
Quakes Houston at AT&T double header......maybe old news but I just heard about the change your thoughts.....? http://www.houstondynamo.com/news/2012/01/dynamo-match-san-jose-rescheduled
Re: Quakes Houston at AT&T Ugh. A midweek game in 'Frisco... And, given that it's a doubleheader, it means those of us who work the games are going to have to take vacation from work and be really tired the next day. Perhaps good for Skippy and his ilk, but sucks for the 99% of us...
Sorry, I am not joining this happy parade, AT&T park sucks as a venue, horrible sight lines, not at all close to the field. And we give up a home game against the Houston. Why not Stanford, which at least has good sight lines? I may pass entirely on this game.
Cool, I'm up for this. I just hope the ticket prices aren't a lot higher than normal home games which might be wishful thinking on my part.
I pass too. I work Saturdays and I was actually looking forward to first Sunday home game. Not a fan of the double header either. Would be better just to have Quakes there.
actually, this doubleheader might may be interesting to see, since its only mexico's u-23 against senegal's u-23. I just wish that the earthquakes didn't look like constant wanderers to the bay area media. hopefully when the epicenter gets built, the doubleheaders will be there, but not likely.
Stanford probably wasn't available or cost too much. Heck I'm surprised AT&T Park was available given that baseball season starts 2 weeks later. Usually baseball ground crews are deep in prepping the field for the season by that point. And any opportunity to be in a larger actual MODERN professional venue is always a welcome one unlike Buck Shaw which isn't professional or the Coliseum which is anything but modern.
Re: Quakes Houston at AT&T WTF ? Thre goes one of the game I actually could make it, Saturdays are a no no for me (because of my job )
First off, congratulations on the impending arrival of your child. If it's your first, there's a good chance it will be late. If it's a second or third, it might be early. I'm not sure how great a venue SBC/ATT Park is because I've never been there. But doing another double-header, another big attendance day, another match with a fair bit of hype has to be a good idea. This team needs to generate some buzz in the Bay Area. So whatever they can do to accomplish that works for me. GO QUAKES!!!! GO EPICENTER!!!! - Mark
Hey- I'm in that photo! Sat w/ Sams Army behind the goal- great game. This is an awesome ballpark- and yeah you're a little far away from the action in places, but it'll be a great game-day experience in the city and on St Paddy's- definitely not to be missed!
In all likelihood the same field layout as in previous games. I'd be concerned about ticket prices though as a STH here it's part of the package. I'm not going to expect a large crowd such as the USA-Japan game and less than 15K showed up for the Manchester City/Club America match. Still, that and St. Patrick's Day going on--makes for an eventful day in San Fran. At least South Bay folk can take the Caltrain and drink up on the way to the game and back (Giants fans post-game on the train make for some "entertainment" ).
I attended the US - Japan game. Not the best place to watch soccer as it seems you are too far away from the field. But ATT is such a great venue; better food, drinks, (more $$$$$). At least the seats are more comfy than at the Buck.
That doesn't look too bad. Only downside of a March game vs say a November game however is that the stands on the "right field" side of the field won't be there. But it's definitely a better location for a game than Candlestick.
