this thread serves to put the spotlight on qatar's 2018 wcq campaign. being so close to 2022, qatar will try to do their best to make it to 2018 in order to legitimize their 2022 hosting.

this thread will serve to track any south american/african additions to qatar's national team throughout the campaign, as well as highlighting any questionable refereeing calls in group A that appear to benefit qatar, as well as unsportsmanlike behaviour committed by qatar. special focus will be on how qatar will be using their "aspire academy" akin to a money laundering operation, to legitimize foreign talents.

to give legitimacy to this thread, i will present you with qatari cheating in WCQ 2014:

before kickoff on the last matchday of AFC wcq 2014, it was qatar vs uzbekistan, and Iran vs south korea.

qatar was already eliminated at this point.

uzbekistan needed a goal differential of 4 against qatar to qualify, as long as Iran did not get 3 points from south korea.

Iran needed 3 points against south korea OR 1 point + having uzbekistan get a GD of less than 4
    against qatar.

south korea was through even with a loss, as long as uzbekistan did not get a GD of at least 6 against qatar.

so qatar, thinking that it was likely that at most Iran would get 1 point vs south korea in south korea, was up 1-0 at half time, then conceded 5 goals in the second half, losing 5-1, giving uzbekistan a GD of 4, the exact GD they needed to qualify over Iran in the case of an Iranian draw against south korea. fortunately, Iran won 1-0 against south korea and sealed its own fate. however, take a look at the goals qatar conceded against uzbekistan and tell me with a straight face that they were genuine:

another background into the sportsmanship, or lack thereof, of qatar:

this was AFC wcq 2006, the 2nd last round. the top team in each group would advance to the final round. Iran had a freak loss to jordan, so this was a must win game. the time wasting shown in this video happened when the game was tied 2-2 in the late stages. the game was in qatar, and qatar was already eliminated before this game. they tried their best to prevent Iran from winning this game because this was the 2nd last game of the round... in the next game qatar was to play jordan, another arab team, that they would have lost on purpose to make jordan advance instead of Iran. again, fortunately Iran scored the winner in this game in injury time to seal its own fate.

bottom line is that qatar is a team that frequently tries to cheat out of pure hatred for other teams, so it is important to watch their behaviour when their own interests are directly at stake. also, they wont be ashamed of using referee advantage in their 2022 to steal draws and lower scorelines against world class teams, but that is a discussion for another time.
