When Shaw gets into the last third, it is as if he is visiting some alien landscape he has never been to before and is totally unfamiliar with. He wouldn't look out of place there with a space suit on ...
Pre-season should be about players getting physically better and mentally sharper - it is the one time they should be given some more freedom to try things. Mou though just seems to have spent the whole pre-season with the team in damage limitation mode.
Concede at a set-piece - shocker. Usual mess from us. Rash gets underneath it at the front post, Herrera doesn't compete and his guy scores. Nobody on the back post. Lindelof and Smalling both outside the six yard area.
That's why I was very forgiving with the first 2 games. I was fully expecting things to start getting better, the deeper we got into the tour, playing the European teams. It's not what we've seen and if is, by and large, what we can expect for this coming season, it's really dread and it could be a long, painful season. Really worried at this point: I think we played 2 halves of decent football the whole of preseason...
Because Jose Mourinho's gigantic ego can't handle the risk of a comprehensive defeat, so it's worth it to him to sandbag 90 minutes of preseason if it means he doesn't lose by a worse scoreline than 1-0, team and player development be damned
Jose's paying possum: letting all the other thinks they'll get a free ride on us. This whole thing about his mood was a smokescreen. We'll see the real United starting this week when it matters vs Leicester. Hope is all we've got, but it's hope that kills you as well...
So looks like we are now 3-5-2 (TFM for Darmian, Jones for Rash) with Sanchez partnered up front with well known super-striker McT (on for Mata) ... McT has been running around aimlessly not sure where he should be (so a like-for-like replacement for Mata in some ways).
Rashford is not overrated, but he's under one of the worst managers there is, in terms of his development. Who does he have to teach him to be a better CF (or just forward in general), especially at this time which is crucial in his career? Jose trusts him, that's all well and good, but he was not the finished article and needed a manager who could hone his talent, to insure continued development. He does not have that at the moment at United. And that's why he's stalled. Would love to see Rashford in the hands of Poch, Jardim, Tuchel or Guardiola. Would bet anything he'd be a completely different player.
By all accounts, Rashford is a hard worker: pretty positive that if he didn't bust his ass in training, Mourinho would want nothing to do with him. He's got no direction, and therein lies the problem...
Parking the bus through pre-season is super-lame. We haven't really clicked as an attacking force since Sanchez arrival in January and this pre-season has done nothing to even attempt to fix that.
At least Lindelof did not look that bad today and let's hope he can build upon that (that he'll have the opportunity at least). Him and Bailly looked good in the time they had together...
You wanna ******** with someone's work ethic? Install a boss who has different rules for different workers, is irrationally angry most of the time. Has huge consequences for minor acts and requires adherence to every rule for people underneath them, but doesn't adhere to the same rules. That will turn the hardest worker into someone who doesn't give a shit.
For a team that has spent so much time parking the bus, worrying that we STILL can't defend set-pieces. So basically we don't even park the bus very well ...
