They've had very few England call ups in those age groups. It looks like the standard signing of foreign players to cover short falls in their ability to identify and develop at younger age groups.
Any reason for it for you ? It obviously starts in the lower age groups but its not like City/Utd have only started competing for the talent. So is it club attitude ? Scouting ? Coaching ? Looking at how many English scholars are at City & Utd. Man City U18: Francis , Rosler, Foden & Bolton (all Stockport), T.Dele-Bashiru (Manchester), Latibeaudiere (Doncaster) , Ian Carlo Poveda ( London/Brentford) U17: Anderson (Barrow/Blackpool), Scott, Frimpong, Ogbeta, F. Dele-Bashiru, F.Nmecha & K.Simmonds (all Manchester), Duncan (Prescot/Wigan), Corrigan (Liverpool/Everton), Ogunby (Bolton/Bury), Richards (London/Fulham), Amankwah (Croydon,London) Article on City's local recruitment : https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...players-joe-shields-profile-a7931306.html?amp Man Utd U18s : Barrett (Huddersfield), Dunne (Manchester), Spratt (Leeds), Tanner (Blackpool), Barlow & Gomes (Salford), U17s : Thompson (Warrington), Carney (Rotherham), Laird , Williams & Bughail-Mellor (Manchester), Garner (Birkenhead), McGhee (Oldham) , Bernard (London/Chelsea)
Do we know what it involves ? Was thinking Tuanzebe is the only one not called-up who could have been. CBJ & Mitchell got Toulon call-ups. Williams has been in squads but is always injured. Greenwood, Mengi, Elanga in 16s/15s are stand-outs but never in squads. Lets see if 13 year-old Shoretire is called up to next years u15 camp.
I think it's pretty standard. United does not play youngsters up the age group that often these days at U18s/U23s level (even Gomes still playing U18s level) so the likes of Laird, Garner, (Brandon) Williams had no chance to get the call ups. Brandon Williams for example was a late 2000 and has just started to get U18s game times this season. His competition for England? Sessegnon's brothers whom both have made their first team debuts. Lewis Gibson who played U23s for Newcastle and Everton. Basically they have too many players and not enough games. DJ Buffonge is warming the bench for the U23s and too old for the U18s. Greenwood is still either bench or not in the squad at all for the U18s because they sign Milen Baars from Ajax who's decent but really a bit unnecessary signing.
Spurs u19s impressed in their 4-0 win against a weak looking Dormund. Anyone know if they had any excuses - missing players etc? Spurs keeper Brandon Austin made some spectacularly impressive saves.
The gifted future England senior star Curtis Jones scored twice for Liverpool's u19s yesterday (after scoring his first goal of the season for the u18s on Friday) in their 4-0 win against Sevilla It was a very competitive game with Sevilla looking a talented, sharp and lively side. But the longer the game went on the more Liverpool started to dominate. Good experience for all concerned.
I was thinking perhaps the Germans need to start copying the English youth development practices. We're leaving them behind.
I'm pretty sure this was clarified before and it turned out that because of the way German youth teams are structured the German teams never take strong squads to the UEFA Youth League.
Can only really speak of experiences vs Schalke as far as Chelsea go but they definitely sent strong teams, they're the only club to beat Chelsea in the competition through three years of being in it.
Some talk that Huddersfield have proceeded with their decision to close the academy. Dunno what happens to the 18s or 23s but the younger groups appear to have all gone.
Ridiculous from Huddersfield to close up their Academy considering they have just gained Promotion to the Prem and will benefit from millions they will get. What's the long term ramifications, if more and more academies start shutting down their Centres? Maybe I misunderstand but say most of the Clubs under the Prem close, how will the kids develop or will it be a case of just buying from abroad and abandon local/English kids? The FA and Premier League really need to try and sort a solution before it gets out of hand.
the dumbest part is all the Huddersfield fans drinking the kool aid and pretending that this is the correct decision and was unavoidable.
Can;t remember where I read it. But read a good point when someone compared it to Brentford. The latter's decision arguably make sense as they are competing with massive clubs and can pick up players off them. Where as Huddersfield are in a massive area they can dominate, picking up the best using the fact they're a PL club as an incentive
The Brentford decision was made purely cause Benham was haemmorrhaging money in his business. The same reason why they dismantled a few other departments there at the same time. The moaning about players being stolen from them was just an excuse as an afterthought.
I think people are getting ahead of themselves a bit. They've made noises about 'considering' shutting it down and nothing more as far as I can tell.
Is this with immediate effect or will they see the season out ? http://trainingground.guru/articles/huddersfield-to-scrap-all-age-groups-below-u18s
Liverpool u19s today lost 2-1 to a very determined, "up for it" Spartak Moscow. It was a battle all the way, with Liverpool ending up with a man sent off. Still, good experience all round. .
Spurs are losing 1-0 to APOEL at HT. Sancho is starting for Dortmund v Madrid at 3pm. Isak has dropped down too.
