It's that time again, folks! Much like the 2005/06 season and 2006/07 season, we'll be having the official 2007/08 Premiership Prediction game on BS. I'll once again be the commissioner/organizer/whatever of the game for this season. I'm contemplating a few little wrinkles this season which I'll address later, and I'm interested in getting feedback from those who've been around for a few of these to let me know what they think. The official, non-negotiable rules are as follows: - Those interested in participating in the prediction game may join the game at any time. Just because you don't get started when the season starts doesn't mean you can't play if you want to later on. You'll just start at 0 points midway through the season and have to make up ground on everyone else. - Every Premier League game will be listed for you to make your predictions on, set up according to game weeks (these 'weeks' will usually run from Monday to Sunday, or Monday to the following Wednesday in the event of midweek fixtures). You must make the submissions for each game before it kicks off, but you are not obligated to make all of your submissions at once. This means you don't have to make all your weekend picks on Friday if you want to wait to make your Sunday picks on Saturday night. Just get them in before the game starts or they won't count. - Post your predictions in this thread, and this thread only, to have them count toward your game score. Please do not PM me your predictions, as they will not be counted toward your game score. - For every correct result you get, you will earn a point. If you get the correct scoreline AND result, you will earn three points. Example: You pick Man City to beat Fulham 2-0. If they win 2-0, you get three points. If they win by any other score line, you get one point. If they lose or draw, you get no points for that game. - Updates will be posted each Tuesday throughout the season (except for on the two-week international breaks), to the best of my ability. In the event of midweek fixtures, they will be posted as soon after the final game concludes as I can manage. I'm expecting a little one in November, so if I start slacking around that time please understand but I will make sure to get the updates through in as timely a fashion as I can muster. Now, for the wrinkles I was considering: - I was considering breaking the game up into different levels, like the Football League has. The top 20 finishers from last year would be Premiership (assuming they all continue this year) and then we would fill in the Championship and possibly League One if there's enough interest. There could be promotion and relegation, maybe a playoff using the Cup Final or something. Who knows. - I was also considering forming some sort of Cup-style knockout thing just for kicks, toward the middle of the season like the FA Cup, depending on the interest. I will probably do the Cup one in some fashion or another, I just want some feedback on how to run it. Let me know on the tier-system idea before the season starts, obviously. That said, here's the first setup of games to pick this year. I'm aware we're a couple of weeks out but I wanted to get this out there early so that as many people can start off level with everyone else as possible. An idea I had last season was for a change in the points awarded. 1 point for the right result (win, loss, draw) 3 points for correct score (2-0 etc) and, 2 points for the correct margin of victory. So, if the prediction was 2-1 and the actual score was 1-0, 3-2 or 4-3 it would score 2 points. This might make it more time consuming to tally up, but it would be better. It would especially work better with tied games.

That's not a bad idea, but in that scenario correctly predicted draws would always count as at least two points. Let's see what some of the other vets think.

What do you folks think of this, in light of RobB's idea? 2 points for correct score margins of non-drawed games 1.5 points for draws without correct scoreline I like the idea of being marginally rewarded for getting the margin right, but I don't like the thought of rewarding a draw equally in that way, because there's no way to get the wrong score margin in a draw. Let me know what you think, don't be shy! I know I'm the new guy, and this sounds awesome! But just out of curiousity, why don't you run this through the Official Prem website? Seems like it would be a lot easier and it's all laid out over there. Allows 20 teams in a group too!
