rhis is all nothing new, we have as expected conmebol and concacaf giving each other support for their bids (2026+2030). apart from known exceptions such as cuba and venezuela. africa will mainly back morocco bid, and and europe will go both ways. this way or another we might have a close race, but I have no doubt old experienced mafioso infantino will find the way to award the world cup to the usa and other two, and pick up,that billion extra for FIFA in the end!
I don't know how accurate this is, but certainly interesting http://northafricapost.com/23151-mo...-103-football-associations-spanish-media.html
I just saw summary from casablanca derby .... nice game, 1:1 and they said “in 7 years in front of 90.000“
Morocco 2026 Bid Has support of 103 Football Associations – Spanish Media http://northafricapost.com/23151-mo...-103-football-associations-spanish-media.html The media cites the FBI crackdown on Latin American football figures and the Trump factor as playing in favor of Morocco’s bid to host the 2026 tournament.
This is very interesting point of view. Not sure if the new FIFA really cares about the LGBT rights but it sounds like it's part of the new requirements. https://apnews.com/99fa19f7a87c423e...Morocco-World-Cup-bid-masks-homosexuality-ban
South Africa backs Morocco. As expected. They are also under investigation in the US. https://apnews.com/2b0293959f4b402c9942e8a90efa8e88/South-Africa-backs-Morocco-for-2026-World-Cup
This is the actual source. https://apnews.com/2b0293959f4b402c9942e8a90efa8e88/South-Africa-backs-Morocco-for-2026-World-Cup It's from Mexico. So... what does it all mean? If it's from Mexico then it's probably an internal United bid source. Pretty much what the United bid needs to do is hack away at the support. Which they've don so already since part of the 106 were CONMEBOL. In addition, the whole Saudia Arabia thing was a coup.
I mentioned quite a bit ago that I was skeptical of some of the support that Morocco was getting. I believe that many of the countries are declaring support as a negotiation point to get favors from the United bid. It's quite probable that the CONMEBOL request for an expanded Qatar world cup was a Saudi request.
To sum it up right now, the United bid is making progress. However, there is still real danger for them. The issues with the wide ranging US investigation into FIFA plus the manner in which the US federation engineered the ouster of Blatter has not gone down lightly. Trump only makes things worse. Even with Morocco being eliminated in the technical phase, the voters can still decide to open bidding to all. The United bid has to show it's willingness to make it worth the voters while economically and politically. A lot will be going down. Some of it might come back to hurt the US. Manuevering against Qatar was the easiest decision to make. I think it interesting that this door was left open since Morocco and Saudia Arabia are long time allies against Iran.
This is quite misleiding. While there is a law banning gay sexual acts. It is a law that rarely being used. There are a lot openly gay people in Morocco. A lot of gay tourist visit and expats live without any issues. Most well known is YSL who even is burried in Marrakech.
I know very well what you mean. Application of the law differing wildly from the letter of the law in practical terms. Qatar’s bid is full of such examples for tourists. But if FIFA are really going to be serious about human rights (that is a big “if”) they will have to consider the letter of the law. Anything else won’t pass the scrutiny test.
There are regions in the US in particular where there might be no law but the locals would not take kindly to gay folks
The funny part is Morocco was actually a refugees orde for gay westerners with that same rule in place http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-29566539
Sure, LGBT people won't be any more accepted in parts of the US or Mexico. However, what recourse do they have in Morocco for any problems they might have? That's a big difference. Also, let's not forget that a lot of football's fan base is very intolerant to gays. In that respect, American fan base is very tolerant even supportive. Mexico fan base decidedly not. But what about, visiting fan base from Russia. What problems could happen? How would the law react? These are all issues.
Again, WC crowds are very harmogenized. We might be overrating the impact that these issues will have on any travelling fans. And its not like people have signs hanging from their neck indicating their sexual preferences.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canad...d_Cup_bid#Proposed_provisional_match_schedule Jee I got overwhelmed just seeing how many groups there will be in 2026.
Not sure where you get that from, but the Cuban and Venezuelan federations have not voiced any rejections to the unified bid to host WC 2026. In fact, the current Venezuelan federation president was the Conmebol lead representative, in the organizing committee for Copa America USA 2016. Federations officials do not care about politics, just the money for supporting a certain bid.
Not only that but the Moroccans brought up US policies and laws when it came to Guns. They started to cast stones when their house of laws was glass when it comes to this sort of policy. It will come off as very hypocritical if Moroccans think they have the moral superiority to nitpick and scrutinize laws of others in one way but can't have others nitpick and scrutinize their laws in the same manner.
I never said their bid or Federation brought it up. Their media did obviously as posted earlies in the thread within a tweet.
Actualy the moroccan media also didn't talk about it. It was only ESPN & co. talking about it, when Morocco included the low crime rate as a selling point. The moroccan media is only critisizing FIFA. By the way the Task Force changed their plans completly in Morocco. They were supposed to visit only four cities. Now reports say that they are also visiting other venues by using different means of transportion.
I doubt this affects the bid much but not a good look. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/bodies-stray-dogs-piled-high-12376372
