Dear Current/Future Rapids Head Coach, - Please keep Nicholson/Lewis on the wings. - Please keep Acosta in the back. - Please continue to start Shinyashiki. - Please keep Mezquida and Rubio as super subs. They excel in those roles. Signed, Everyone.
Bodmer Line: 31/19 = 1.632 PPG (points needed to snag last playoff spot at 43 point average divided by games remaining) Kroenke Line: 17/19 = 0.895 PPG (maximum points that can be earned to win the average Wooden Spoon at just over 26 points). The team leading the Spoon race is currently on pace for 24.9 points. The Rapids now trail the race for the Spoon by one point. Hudson Line: = 0.158 PPG (no more than 3 points in 19 remaining matches), measuring the PPG needed to become the worst team in MLS history. The current record is 16 points, held by D.C. United (3-24-7 in 2013). The Hudson Line is now worse than Hudson’s 2019 performance (0.181 PPG). Rapids: 3-9-3, with 12 points in 15 matches = 0.800 PPG, on pace for 27 points for the season. They already completed the worst first third of a season (2 points) in MLS history. The Rapids are no longer even close to the worst first half of a season. Rapids: surrendering 2.267 goals per match (34 goals in 15 matches) on pace to surrender 77 goals for the season. The current MLS record is 74 goals allowed (Orlando City, 2018). Hudson: 0-7-2, 0.181 PPG. 12 GF (1.333 avg), 24 GA (2.667 avg), Diff = -12 Casey: 3-2-1, 1.667 PPG. 12 GF (2.000 avg), 10 GA (1.667 avg), Diff = +2
I am working tonight, but am completely befuddled at the recent turnaround.....Yes, the roster was new and needs time to meld, yes Hudson missed and Casey has something about him, and yes the new guys are helping......... If we keep this line up and style, use subs properly, we can have a nice 2/3 season, and but I cannot jinx us and say the *p* word. R
We're Not #Last! We're Not #Last! We're Not #Last! We're Not #Last! We're Not #Last! We're Not #Last!
At the current pace of Casey's Rapids, for a full season, the Rapids would be looking at 57 points for the season. At Hudson's pace, the Rapids were looking at 6 points for the season. Even with Hudson's abysmal start, if Casey's team continues its present pace, the Rapids could finish with 43 points (41 from Casey). EDIT: And remember that Hudson coached the easiest third of the season schedule.
Interesting how this Rapids team gave up a goal and then got aggressive. The previous team would have collapsed to avoid the mistake from happening again. Which often led tona horrible 10 minute swing where a goal would turn into 2 or 3. Credit to CC for that bit of coaching. (Yes, I consider this a different team than what we saw at the beginning of the season.)
Plenty of late arrivals for this game. Maybe the Rapids should have done a robocall about the 6:30 start time. OTOH, the first 30 minutes were dreadfully dull, so maybe the Rapids were just being considerate. As for the rest...are the Rapids actually fun to watch? The crowd had energy!
Not only are these stats bad, but if you count total points from when each of those expansion teams entered the league, they all have more points than the Rapids in the same time frame (as does every non-expansion team as well). Since the start of 2011 the only teams we have more points than when comparing the same seasons played are Chivas (2011-2014) and Cinci (2019). Saw him down at Denver Pop Culture Con today.
Until the Rapids first goal it seemed that Cincy was the most likely wide to score. They had more possession and were creating some chances. Then Nicholson got to the endline and it across so nicely. Initially I thought it wasn't going to amount to much when there was Shinyashiki at the far post to hit it perfectly. Yes, the Rapids did their thng and gave up a goal to make it interesting for a few seconds but they just went about their business after that - which this season is scoring goals. Got to hand it to the coaching staff for getting the lineup and tactics right in every game this past week. They managed getting some players rest and had others go the whole way in several games and ti worked very well. Also, the midweek match saw the Rapids play a 4-4-2 diamond which of course isn't what they've been playing in the home victories. On the way out of the stadium I stopped Pádraig who I assume was on his way to the press conference. I thanked hem profusely for the new acquisitions and the turnaround. He stated they have a lot of talented young players who are able to express themselves. Asked about Lewis's injury, he stated the ideal situation would have him rest about three weeks, but it partially depends on what the national team wants. Sounds like he may not see the pitch for the Rapids again until the end of this month.
Damn, who are these Rapids? REALLY enjoyed that game! Not ready to commit to a Casey for coach campaign but he's definitely changed the mentality of the team.
Sitting at a pub in Dublin and Rapids highlights came on! They did a full report on the game. I grabbed a few pics of the screen. People were paying attention.
