Portuguese Referees May Go On Strike

    I am surprised by the news of a possible strike, but I am much more surprised over this quote from the article:
    "Refereeing in Portugal is an amateur activity ..."

    Are Portuguese referees at all levels considered amatuers, or part-timers? How poorly are they paid? Maybe if they were paid better and were full-time they wouldn't be so tempted to take bribes and contribute to the corruption that plagues the Portuguese leagues.
