Is anyone on these forums active in the betting world?

If so, you would notice Portugal is currently +2800 to win the 2018 World Cup.

Ok, thats fine, my question is this:

When i look at the odds, why do i see this?

    Germany +450
    Argentina +800
    France +800
    Brazil +800
    Spain +900
    Belgium +1400
    Italy +1600
    England +1600
    Portugal +2800!!!!!!

What do you guys think of these odds? no bullshit.. i do not see a team at this present moment that is better/deeper/better form then Portugal.. with so much more talent on its way..

How much do you guys see this changing in the next year and a half that makes Portugal sitting at +2800 a fair assesment?

I am contemplating a 5000.00 wager, which would result in a 145,000$ win if Portugal wins in 2018.

South Americans winning in Russia? i dont see it.. Brazil and Argentina eliminated. An aging Spain who will continue to roll out an aging out of form Iniesta/Alba/Busquets/Navas? nope... Italy is in a moment of transition (tho admittedly can not be counted out).. over rated England whos only title is 66 which in truth was likely rigged? France? i think we showed how that match will go in modern day.. this isnt 2006 anymore..

That's hilarious when you consider how much better we are going to look on paper for 2018.

    No respect.

We are the Chile of Europe.

Who cares about these odds. Most teams are not even qualified yet for the World Cup so that shows you how much weight these odds hold.

Well place a bet on it if you want ,

Contrary to European championships, Portugal ,s World Cup history is pretty pitiful.

I would much rather fly under the radar again so hope we continue to do so.

Portugal only do well on European soil in World Cups. We don't travel well.

in 2010 if we didnt run into Spain in the R16 we probably would have at made the quarters/semis

our team wasn't that good tho

hopefully we win the rest of our qualifying games, and end up seeded so we can get an accessible draw.

Spain should not be anywhere near the odds. Their players insult each other on twitter, too many egos.

    They are done winning.

Sure, these teams are not qualified, and we are still 1.5 years away from the tournament taking place.

I think it is safe to say all the teams mentioned above will be there in 2018 however.. and for some of them to be favoured ahead of Portugal is disrespectful, given who those specific teams are and their current situations and foreseeable struggles. Portugal is quite possibly the best team in the world right now.. and will only be getting stronger over the next year heading into the World Cup.

To the person who said Portugal does not travel well.. Russia is in Europe.. therefore there isnt much travel required.

Historically, Portugal has not done 'WELL' in the WC, but, this is a different Portugal.. one who now knows what it takes to WINNNN... one with a coach who goes into the tournaments EXPECTING TO WIN.. these are two things Portugal has never had before..

it sounds crazy.. but, i believe Portugal will win the WC.. sending Cristiano off into retirement for the NT.

I might put some money on it just because that's a ridiculous pay out.

Take it now because when we get closer to the WC the odds will lower. The odds are not a terrible reflection on reality but of course they are always a bit misleading, with the funniest being England, tournament after tournament for as long as I can remember. I give the New York Knicks the same odds of winning the next WC as England.

    We
Shouldn't be surprised . People hate Portugal.

Since we won the euro people hate us even more , when I tell someone I am
Portuguese I can sense the butt hurt even more within them since the euro.

I said "Portugal only do well on European soil in World Cups. We don't travel well."

Not sure what you read but I thought it was pretty clear.

It was great having Turkey crush their Euro 2016 hopes.

Even if Holland made Euro 2016, having us in the tournament would probably just fry their confidence.

At 2800 to 1, it would in my opinion be a rational choice to put some money down.

We will be so much better than at the euros, both in terms of individual players and the style of play we employ..

    Good odds we go far
