We should take a moment to commemorate the victory that made us virtually safe and forced Arsene Wenger out of Arsenal. Things looked according to script with Arsenal being faster and maintaining 72% possession, but Newcastle fighting for 50-50 and making themselves hard to break down. Lacazette scored on the counter with a long ball to a quick cross and a volley, but it was the only good shot on goal we allowed as they only managed to get 3 on target. The revived Diame continued to maraud through the midfield alongside Shelvey who was winning balls and firing early passes. It was easy to keep faith when Shelvey connected another long pass to Gayle behind. He lays off to Yedlin this time, who feeds Ayoze in stride. 1-1 at the half.

The second half was even less possession, but they found a way: A throw in to a header to a back heel to Ritchie to the corner flag! Slimani was finally able to contribute an assist in his total 42 minutes of play for Newcastle. The lads came back after conceding the first goal for only the second time this season. They defeated Arsenal after having lost the last ten meetings with them. 41 points, and already planning on how to be top 10 next year.
