I couldn't agree with you more in that regard. It's not a question of whether or not you're right about Arizona's heat. It's a complete and utter non-starter when it comes to MLS. If they switch the schedule at some point in the future, then you're only left with the teensy detail of a stadium at all, regardless of roof (assuming they don't ever switch it back). My point is completely about the fact that you seem to believe the more times you post the idea of an Inter-Arizona Winter League in any thread that's even tangentially related brings such an idea closer to reality. It doesn't. You're just that guy with the verbal tic at the party. Enough already. Could you pull six to eight craptacular NPSL-type teams together in such a league? Sure, I guess. But it's not going to reach a point where it's a real, viable, competitive league that breaks through the clutter. It would just be the NPSL in the winter. Yay. You're limiting yourself to Arizona, Southern California and....what, Sonora? Like that's going to be attractive? Like anyone's going to pump a bunch of money into that so that YOU can have a league to watch?
So I guess they made it; they're listed on the NPSL teams page. http://www.nationalpremiersoccerleague.com/teams/index_E.html
They dropped out of the NPSL. They're still USASA-affiliated, I do believe, and can still qualify for the US Open Cup, should they choose to enter, I suppose. But they don't play in a league that I'm aware of.
I disagree. Here is my take (Attended many football games, and baseball games during the summer). Soccer has a small tailgating atmosphere. I have been to many MLS stadiums and one thing I do notice is the lack of tailgating overall. I also don't think it would stop most from tailgating, those who want too. Columbus Crew has a tent up that allows you go to a bar setting, and Arizona could do something like that very successful. Arizona has beautiful nights, that's when you play games. In reality, I do believe Arizona team would do better than many other locations barbecue of the weather. When the weather is nice in columbus people come out to see the team. When the weather is rain/cold people stay away. Any Arizona team can play night games when it is beautiful and have almost no rainy days which would bolster attendance. The location is very important though, you need something in the middle of the city and not like the stupid TEP park in Tucson.
It's true, we do. Unfortunately, they're (largely) from around Halloween to Easter. Makes playing outdoor soccer here a bit of a challenge, because the season runs kinda the opposite of that. Just tell us when those beautiful nights are going to be and we'll schedule accordingly.
Since Tucson does not have a cross town freeway, TEP (Kino Sports Complex) is one of the better places in town to get to a game because it is right off of the freeway. Easy access from Marana and Rita Ranch. Plus it is right off of Kino blvd which goes right into the center of town. If you are on the east side, then it is just a matter of getting on Swan, Craycroft or Wilmot and take it till you get to Golf Links, then you are there. Kino is perfect unless you are trying to walk to the game.
