FULL-TIME | A point each for Hanoi FC and Ceres Negros F.C. Good away game result by Ceres FC against the highest ranked team in the group
The Philippines will have a friendly on March 22 in Manila against Malaysia in preparation for their Asian Cup qualifying match against Nepal on March 28. The Azkals are bracketed in Group F of the third round of the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers, along with Nepal, Yemen and Tajikistan.
It seems that the Azkals have secured the commitments of 2 new Fil-European players for the national team. They include centerback Jesper Nyholm who plays in the Allsvenkan, the top tier league in Sweden and Raphael Obermair, who plays for Bayern Munich's U-23 team, and who was only one of 3 players from their youth teams to be invited to train with the first team of Bayern Munich this season. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raphael-obermair/profil/spieler/330699 Raphael with Bayern Munich Manager Ancelotti on Feb 2 during training. http://geiletore.de/news/ueberraschung-im-training-dieser-spieler-darf-bei-den-bayern-mittrainieren/
Training with Bayern Munich It will take time for this players to finish their paperwork so I don't think they will be able to play for the national team in the next few games.

FT Magwe FC(Bur) 1 - 1 Johor Darul Ta'zim FC(Mys) FT Global FC(Phl) 2-0 Boeung Ket (Cam) Global leads Grp F with 6 ahead of Johor Darul Ta"zim with 4, Magwe with 1 and Boeung Ket with 0 after 2 games Phnom Penh: Global FC of the Philippines maintained their winning start to the 2017 AFC Cup with a 2-0 victory over Cambodia’s Beoungket Angkor in Group F at National Olympic Stadium on Tuesday. The visitors opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Paul Mulders fired a stunning effort from distance into the top left corner as Global looked to build on their opening-day victory over Myanmar’s Magwe FC. The midfielder then doubled his and Global’s advantage from the spot when he struck low into the bottom right corner after Beoungket defender Sun Sovannrithy upended Shu Sasaki in the area as Toshiaki Imai's team claimed all three points. The victory helped Global jump to the top of the standings after 2015 AFC Cup winners Johor Darul Ta’zim of Malaysia played out a 1-1 draw with Magwe in Tuesday’s other Group F encounter.
FT Ceres(Phl) 5-0 Tampines(Sin) FT Felda Utd (Mys) 1-1 T & T Ha Noi (Vie) Ceres leads Grp G with 4 points, followed by Tampines with 3, Hanoi with 2 and Felda with 1.
Nice looking website with catchy slogans for the Ilocos United Football Club, the new team in the inaugural season of the Philippine Football League from the northern province of Ilocos located in the quaint colonial Spanish era city of Vigan, Ilocos Philippines: iufc.com.ph/ Looks like their head coach is Australian Ian Gillan with I believe some Australian investors involved. Unfortunately they have only just started tryouts and been training for a few weeks, while more established teams from the UFL like Global FC and Ceres FC are already dominating the AFC Cup group stage.
AFC Cup Preview: JDT v Global, Ceres v Felda Posted on March 13, 2017 Its Philippines versus Malaysia this week in the 2017 AFC Cup and nothing but fireworks are expected in both ties. Johor Darul Ta’zim will host Global Cebu in Johor on March 14 while Ceres-Negros will face FELDA United in Bacolod the day after. JDT v Global Malaysia Super League Champions Johor Darul Ta’zim will meet United Football League Champions Global Cebu FC in a Group F tie on Tuesday. It will be the first meeting of both squads in AFC competition with the top spot for Group F will be at stake. Global is still perfect after two matches highlighted by their recent 2-0 win against Boeung Ket Ankor in Phnom Penh. JDT played its reserve unit in match day 2 and settled for a 1-1 draw with ten men against Magwe in Yangon and the Malaysian champions are out to recoup lost points in this tight race to the top. With JDT expected to bring out its best eleven, interesting individual battles will be seen throughout the match. Philippine International Misagh Bahadoran and Trinidadian Darryl Roberts and will have to deal with the defensive partnership of Malaysia’s Junior Eldstal and Brazilian Marcos Antonio. Former Azkal Paul Mulders will be pitted against former Malaysia Captain Safiq Rahim in a key battle in midfield. Global’s Amani Aguinaldo and Brazilian Wesley dos Santos will have a tough task ahead against Hazwan Bakri and Argentinian Gabriel Guerra. JDT last played a Philippine squad in Kaya FC with a 7-2 trashing at Larkin stadium in the Round of 16 of the 2016 AFC Cup. Global is keen to improve its record in the AFC Cup against Malaysian teams after getting double 0-0 draws against Pahang in the 2015 edition. Though pundits have marked JDT as the favorites in this match, Global is keen for an upset in front of the Johor fans. The match will kickoff at 845pm in Johor. Ceres vs Felda Ceres-Negros FC will host Felda United in Match Day 3 of Group G in the AFC Cup. Ceres has just come-off from a 5-0 win against Tampines Rovers which elevated them into first spot in the group. Felda almost came off with its first win against Hanoi at the Shah Alam stadium but the Vietnamese squad came up with a last minute goal for the 1-1draw. Both squads qualified for the group stages of the tournament after placing second in their respective leagues last year. Ceres has had a history of tough matches against Malaysian clubs especially against Selangor in last year’s AFC Cup. Their opening match in Bacolod saw Selangor scoring first with a brilliant free kick from Hafiz Kamal until Ceres equalized late with a Stephan Schrock strike. Both teams played the second leg in the Selayang Municipal Stadium where Ceres forced a 0-0 draw which consequently allowed them to qualify for the Round of Sixteen of the 2016 AFC Cup. The tie will feature a new challenge for both squads in all areas of the pitch. Fernando Ceres’ Spaniards Rodriguez and Bienvenido Maranon will slug it out with central defenders in Lebanese Mootaz Jounaidi and Malaysian legend Shukor Adan. Manny Ott will have to deal with Scottish-Malaysian defensive midfielder Stuart Wark in the midfield. Argentinean striker Lucas Cano and Liberian Zah Krangar will be a handful for Carli de Murga and Super Herrera. The Bacolod squad will gun for a second straight victory but the visitors are fully aware that a win is the only way for them to reach the next round of the tournament. A capacity crowd is again expected at the Panaad Stadium to support the home team. The match will be aired at 7PM on Wednesday. theperfectpass.wordpress.com/2017/03/13/afc-cup-preview-jdt-v-global-ceres-v-felda/
Global lost away to JDT 0-4. Still in 2nd place in the group and if they finished this way and is the best runner up among the 3 groups. will face the winner of Grp G which could be Ceres in the next round. They need to win and possibly overcome the goal deficit when they play JDT at home in April in order to get a chance of clinching 1st place.

Azkals gunning for top-100 FIFA ranking, Asian Cup slot Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — We may be well into March, but for the Philippine Azkals, 2017 is just getting started. After a disappointing campaign at the 2016 Suzuki Cup last November, the Azkals have dusted themselves off and now have a fresh new set of goals in their radar. Speaking to the media ahead of their friendly match against Malaysia, the Azkals laid out their plans moving forward. This year and the following year, the Azkals intend to break into the top 100 teams in the FIFA world rankings, and to become the first ever Philippine team to qualify for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup. According to Azkals head coach Thomas Dooley, breaking into the world's top 100 teams is important for team's development. "This year or maybe next year, that we need to focus on the 100," Dooley bared. "We need to break the 100 once, even if it's just for one day so that we can set new goals." The Philippines currently is ranked at 124 in the world, which is a far cry from the lowly 191 position that the country occupied when current team captain Phil Younghusband made his international debut in 2005. "Breaking the hundred is something you know?" Younghusband said. "I remember joining and we were 191, and its not easy to get up the rankings." Aiming high in Asia Apart from hiking up the rankings, the national team also has an eye on rubbing elbows with the continent's best in the Asian Cup at Abu-Dhabi in 2019. Only the winners and runners-up from each group in the qualifiers will book a ticket to the final competition. Those who qualify will join defending champions Australia, China, Iraq, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and hosts the United Arab Emirates. The Philippines was drawn with familiar foes in Tajikistan, Nepal, and Yemen in Group F of the competition. Nepal will be the first opponent to test the Philippines, when they open up the group stage on March 28 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. For Younghusband, the Azkals have been handed a favorable draw after looking back at their past meetings with their opponents. "We've drawn teams that we've had success in the past, and that we've had comfortable success with in the past," the Philippine skipper said. Younghusband also says that four wins in the group could possibly be enough to advance in the competition, and the Azkals are eager to start things off in a positive note to revive interest in football in the country once again. "if we win our first four games, that puts us in a great position and that would be great for Philippine football, and hopefully that could be the rejuvenation, the acceleration point of Philippine football to again make a name in the Philippines among Filipino people," he said. Overall, both the players and the staff feel that their goals are realistic and within reach. But games are played on the field, and not on paper. The Azkals will have to show their resolve first by dealing with Malaysia in a friendly on Wednesday evening. cnnphilippines.com/sports/2017/03/21/Philippine-Azkals-FIFA-ranking-Asian-Cup-top-100-teams.html
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — After missing out on national team duties during the 2016 Suzuki Cup, Neil Etheridge, Javier Patiño, and Daisuke Sato are set to suit up for the Philippine Azkals once again. The Azkals are set to defend their home turf against Malaysia in an international friendly on Tuesday evening at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. Without the trio, the Azkals crashed out of the Suzuki Cup in the group stage after three consecutive semifinal appearances in the tournament. The three players missed out due to the Suzuki Cup not falling within the FIFA international match window. Both Phil and James Younghusband are featured in the team as well, while regulars Amani Aguinaldo, Misagh Bahadoran, and Manny Ott also earned callups.
AFC ASIAN CUP 2019 QUALIFIERS: PHILIPPINES 4-1 NEPAL Manilla: Captain Phil Younghusband scored twice in the first half as the Philippines made the ideal start to their 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign with a 4-1 home win over 10-man Nepal in Group F at Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Tuesday. Younghusband missed a penalty after Nepal’s Bikram Lama had been sent-off, but the Philippines captain made amends with two goals in the space of three minutes midway through the first half. Iain Ramsay extended the advantage for the home side soon after, and after Bishal Rai had struck in first half stoppage time for the visitors, Javier Patino sealed the win in the closings stages of the second half. The Philippines had an early chance to take the lead as Nepal’s Bikram Lama was sent off for handball after just 13 minutes, but visiting goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong saved Younghusband’s resulting penalty. But the Philippines captain made no mistake after 21 minutes as the home side were awarded another spot kick following a foul by Rabin Shrestha on the striker, and despite the Nepal goalkeeper again guessing the right way, Younghusband’s strike was too good. And just two minutes later the home side added a second as Younghusband converted from inside the penalty area. The Philippines then added a third after 27 minutes as Nepal failed to deal with a free-kick played into the penalty area and Ramsay eventually hooked the ball into the bottom corner. But in first half stoppage time Nepal pulled a goal back as substitute Bishal Rai ghosted into the penalty area to fire home following good work from the visitors. The second half started as a cagey affair, but with 18 minutes remaining the home side restored their three-goal advantage as Patino fired home from inside the area. afc.com
8 teams for PFL inaugural kickoff Saturday, April 01, 2017 By Henry G. Doble EIGHT football clubs from across the country are set to take the green turfs when the Philippines Football League (PFL) kicks off late this April. Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has confirmed the teams participating are Loyola-Meralco Taguig, Japan-Philippine Voltes Marikina, Ilocos United FC, Stallion Laguna, Kaya FC Makati, Davao Aguilas FC, Global Cebu FC and Ceres Negros FC of Bacolod. Meralco Taguig has its home turf at McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig with a 2,000-seating capacity while the JP Voltes will be based at the Marikina Sports Complex. Ilocos United FC will play their home games at the 5,000- seat Quirino Stadium. Stallion will have their own turf at the Biñan Football Stadium with 2,500 seats; Kaya FC at the Makati Sports Complex; and Davao Aguilas, at the 3,000-seater Tagum Davao del Norte Sports Complex. Global is expected to settle down at the Cebu City Sports Complex with 5,000-seating capacity and Ceres Negros at Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City. Last year, PFF presented the overview and guidelines of the Philippines' new league supposedly set to unfold last month. PFF General-Secretary lawyer Edwin Gastanes said that this league, which will be the country’s top tier league and will serve as qualifying for all international competitions will run in eight months for its initial season. For its inaugural season, the PFL will only have one division, playing in a home-and-away, double round-robin format with top four teams advancing in the semis and later in the finals. On the composition of the team, Gastanes said that each team should have minimum of 25 players with a maximum of 30, including three goalkeepers, four foreign players (3+1 player from the Asian Football Confederation), and a minimum of three youth players in the roster. Along this program, Gastanes also said that each participating club must have their youth program. Read more: www.sunstar.com.ph/bacolod/sports/2017/04/01/8-teams-pfl-inaugural-kickoff-534259

Pretournament article on the women's team: The Philippine Women’s National Football Team will be kicking off their campaign to qualify for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup final round in a few hours. Placed in a what can be considered an easy bracket on paper, by virtue of being the second top-seeded team out of six at the time of the draw, the Philippines has a legitimate shot at moving on to the final round—a feat that has never been accomplished before. With the release of the women’s world rankings only last week, the update has in fact made the Philippines (No. 68) the top-seeded team in the group with Jordan — then the top seed during the time of the draw — sliding out of the rankings due to prolonged inactivity. But Jordan need not worry as they have automatically qualified for the final round as tournament hosts. After the Philippines, it is Bahrain (No. 73) and the United Arab Emirates (No. 78) that pose a threat based on ranking points, which also imply that the teams have been keeping themselves busy with friendly games against other international squads. Both teams play the Philippines in crucial night games, which could be significantly dictated by the harsh weather conditions of the Tajikistani mountainous region where the group’s games will be held. Temperatures are expected to reach as low as 2 degrees. Iraq and the hosts Tajikistan are not only unranked teams, but are also newly assembled squads. Iraq are eager to prove themselves worthy of the continental stage, while Tajikistan should have a slight edge on home field advantage. The best team after five games — apart from Jordan — will be advancing to the final round, along with the winners from the other three groups. They will join the elite ranks of Japan, Australia, and China next summer in what also doubles as qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France 2019. Tasked to take the country to heights it has never reached before in the sport are nineteen individuals deemed the best out of a month-long set of trials and training camps. Tending the goal are De La Salle University’s Inna Palacios and Far Eastern University’s Hazel Romina Arce. Palacios is a long-standing veteran and is still considered the captain of the team since being named in 2015. She has seen international action as far back as the last round of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers in 2013. Arce is a new addition to the national side who was also a part of the team pool last year. The backline looks to be robust, mostly thanks to the lanky veterans based overseas: University of California Santa Cruz’s Claire Lim, University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Hali Long, and Florida International University’s Patricia Tomanon. Lim has been donning the country’s colors since 2013, while Long and Tomanon are back to serve the country for the second year in a row. Also on defense is OutKast FC’s Alesa Dai Dolino, a constant fixture in the team since her impressive debut in 2015. DLSU’s Mary Cristine Duran made her debut last year and is also back on the squad for this campaign. Rounding out the rest of the defenders are newcomers Joanna Almeda of De La Salle-Zobel High School and Green Archers United FC, and Zhyrelle Lou Belluga of FEU. Central midfield will be mainly controlled by three-time veterans Sara Castañeda of DLSU and Hanna Parado of University of North Florida, along with the team’s most seasoned veteran in Patrice Impelido of Hiraya FC, who has been lending her services for national duty since 2005. DLSU’s Irish Navaja — who also featured on last year’s team — will help out in the wings alongside newcomers Jovelle Sudaria (FEU), Aira Agustin (University of the Philippines), Nina Arrieta (La Salle) and Anicka Castañeda (La Salle-Zobel/GAU FC). Sudaria, along with her FEU teammates, has had international experience when their school team participated in an invitational tournament in Vietnam after winning the PFF Women’s Cup in 2015. The talented Castañeda sisters also do not often play on the same team together, so alongside cousin Arrieta, this year will be a first for them. Arrieta is also a late addition to the team after a brief confusion on the team’s final selection. In attack are Moorpark College California’s Eva Madarang and DLS-Z HS/GAU FC’s Alisha Del Campo. Madarang, who is an adept midfielder, has been converted to striker, while Del Campo’s recent impressive scoring tally from the paused PFF Women’s League makes her a lethal option. Buda Bautista, on her third tenure as head coach of the senior Philippine women’s team, is again in charge of devising plans to make full use of the team’s advantages. Alfredo Rey Estacion and Josephine Loren will help facilitate on tactics, while Merlie Acibar and goalkeeping specialist Jimmy Dizon will help assist with training. Completing the staff are Isabel Sison the physiotherapist and Maria Lalaine Sarmiento, the team manager and head of delegation. http://tiebreakertimes.com/tbt/afc-...rs-a-preview-of-the-philippine-campaign/82303 This is not the best roster that the Philippine women's team can muster, as many players begged off from national team duty for academic and other reasons. They are a very young team and even have a couple of high schoolers on the squad. The inaugural PFF Philippine Women's League helped prepare many of the local players for this tournament.
