This is an advert on CONCACAF.com:
According to Jonathan Tannenwald's take, Atlanta and Baltimore will host the quarterfinals, while the New Meadowlands Stadium will get the semis. The third-place match will take place at PPL Park (smart move by CONCACAF to avoid playing that game at an NFL Stadium) and the Final at Lincoln Financial.
How much have Gold Cup Final tickets cost in the past? I might want to go.
I saw that, but another advert on CONCACAF has fixtures in NJ/NY on 19 June - the day of a quarter final.
On ticket master they base price is $30-175 ($45-$197 including their dang fees).
It is possible to buy them now but you need a code to unlock them. PM me if you want the code
It's bs that it's in Philly. They're supposed to alternate north/south venues for the Final.
09 NY (north)
11 RoseBowl (south)
13 Chicago (north)
15 should be in the south
CONCACAF doing what it can to balance the amount of Conf Cup berths the 2 teams win. Might as well be Vince McMahon running this confed...
If you're counting Chicago as "south" for '07, I don't see why Philly can't be in the south as well.
I'm not counting Chicago as south. Luckily that game had more Mexican fans, but's it's still north and not necessarily a lock to have more Mexican fans.
It's clear that CONCACAF does not want Mexico to win 2 consecutive CC berths.
Call me when this thing ends in the Southeast (e.g. Atlanta, Miami).
So it's less "they're supposed to" and more "I would like them to, because it would make things easier for Mexico".
Good luck with that.
It's in the interest of fairness. I don't know what kind of crowd Philly will have, but it stands to reason for C'caf to put it in the South after a northern Final in 2013.
The July 26th final is the same day as the D.C. United v Philadelphia Union match in Washington. I can't see how CONCACAF and MLS would annoy several thousand fans who would want to see both matches with this scheduling conflict. Any indication that the DCU-Philly match will be moved?
Probably not - MLS barely agreed to break for the Gold Cup group stage as it is.
