So as we were battering Forest I did manage to get to the stadio olimpico for Lazio v napoli. Amazing experience overall but some general takeaways: Despite huge empty sections, the Curva nord was pretty packed which magnified the atmosphere. We were in the Tribuna Tevere a little way over from that end. Awesome atmosphere despite the overall crowd size. The sort of passion you only get from blue collar fans who have followed the team for generations and can still afford a ticket. Made me very nostalgic for the Shed. We simply do not and cannot get that type of vibe these days. It's a pale comparison. On the flip side some disgusting displays of fascism and racism. I expected this from the fan base but still shocking to see full on fascist salutes and hearing monkey noises every time a black player was on the ball. Indefensible. The language of football is truly global. My seat neighbours had little English and I had no italian to speak of but we could communicate in gestures about awful refereeing, shite defending and bad goalkeeping. As for the footy, it was okay but a long shout from the tactical high points of serie a past. Two of the better teams and some really average play. No pace to the counters and really clumsy passing and tackling. Not a brand of football I could enjoy over a sustained period tbh but I would go to another game.
Ha. While it was most present there it was absolutely not limited to the Curva Nord. I would still recommend going to most people but go in eyes open for sure. Perhaps I enjoyed the songs a lot more for not knowing the lyrics..... Appreciated the tip!
If you ever wondered why players fall in the box...watch the highlights of Arsenal v West Brom. Jay Rodriguez is brought down, clear penalty, gets back up and fires it off the post. Madley played advantage but never pulled it back.
Well then, good on Matt. Dit is ons Elftal van de Weekhttps://t.co/PXlIZGEObR pic.twitter.com/amYQwkphuW— AD.nl/sportwereld (@ADSportwereld) September 25, 2017
He's been playing well the last few weeks. Initially he wasn't starting so he's forced his way in and is doing well.
Promising, but no way Conte promotes him. The more puzzling thing is US Soccer-related. Miazga has been getting serious minutes in Holland and helped Vitesse win a trophy. Not even called into the team and Tim Ream starts against Costa Rica. Garbage. The US have so few options.
Totally agree. Doesn't have a future with us, but our CB's are trash and I cannot fathom why he isn't involved.
Kid was playing for a local club side. Went over to Portugal for a tournament and got scouted by Benfica. Made his Benfica B debut and scored. They think he'll make his senior debut this season. I'll find an article if I can. I saw the story on beIN. EDIT: His name is Keaton Parks and he's from Plano, Texas. Here's an article from the Dallas Daily News. https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/soccer/soccer/2017/07/25/keaton-parks-officially-signs-benfica
It's cause Bruce is only going to play those he knows and who have "experience" even if said experience is sucking as a player (cough Gonzo cough Zusi at RB cough)... If Cameron can't go Miazga should be leading the pack. But alas Bruce had to play the same old tried and true in the b team gold cup instead of giving him a real shot. Thus making this all important next game extremely unlikely. Miazga will never be a Chelsea quality CB but I think he's got the potential to be a very solid CB in most top leagues. The Dutch have done wonders with improving his passing vision and skill on the ball. If he goes on loan again I hope it's to Italy where they'll get him tactically improved.
Would prefer Germany only because there is a strong comfort level there with Americans and the German propensity to play youth.
Ironically, they were linked along with a couple other German sides. What I find hilarious is, this kid really impressed playing for a lowly Portuguese side and got snapped up by Benfica but there wasn't a scout in America that saw him or at least thought he was worth an academy spot? With that said, this is great for us as the more US players playing outside the US the better. Our failings at the national level seem to coincide with our best players coming back and we've become stagnant. Just my 2 cents.
May have, I have no idea. The article I posted has some background info. I was only made aware of the kid by beIN's show The Locker Room.
